Year 1Interactive Homework Overview: Spring2
At Broad Heath we want children to be active learners who become great thinkers, super readers, fantastic writers, are kind, considerate but most all are inspired to learn. By working together, we can make this school year a very positive and successful inspirational experience for both you and your child.
The children are to choose at least two activities from each row per week and complete in either their Homework folder, Blog or on Purple Mash. The homework must be returned to school by Wednesday the following week after the homework has been set. A minimum of 2 pieces of homework must be completed each week.

Green/Blue: Find a quarter of the following quantities 12, 16, 2 0, 40.
Yellow/Orange: Find a quarter of the following quantities 4, 8, 12, 16
Red: Can you share these quantities between 4?

Don’t forget to show your methods! / Capacity
Explore capacity with your adults at home. Can you fill different containers with water? Which container holds the most? How do you know? Record your findings on a piece of paper. / Multiplication
Write down the10x tables? Can you work with your adults at home to make up a song/rap to help you to learn these times tables?
For example:
1x10 is 10
2x10 is 20
3x10 is 30… / Time
Create a model clock. Make sure that you have moveable hands. Can you use it to show the following times? Draw them on a piece of paper. 4o’clock, 8o’clock, half past 10, quarter past 2. / Shape
How many different 2D and 3D shapes can you find in your house? Record them on a piece of paper or take photographs of them. Can you also describe these shapes using the following words, side, corner, flat, hollow, edges, vertices, round.
Literacy

Write down as many traditional tales as you know on you class blog.
For example:
Jack and the Beanstalk, The Three Pigs, Hansel and Gretel. / Character Description.
Draw a character from your favourite Traditional Tale. Use adjectives and conjunctions to describe your character.
/ Phonics
Using a reading book of your choice find words for the following sounds:
Green/Blue: a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e, u-e
Yellow/Orange: ay, ee, igh
Red: sh, ch, qu
Write them down on a piece of paper. / Handwriting
Practise you cursive handwriting for the following joins/pre-joins. Remember to start at the line!
Green/Blue: ay, ag, at
Yellow/Orange: ay, ee, igh
Red: a, y, e, g
Write them down on a piece of paper. / Story writing
Read, watch or listen to some traditional tales e.g. Little Red Riding Hood, the Three Billy Goats Gruff, the Enormous Turnip.
Can you make puppets to help you to retell the story?Can you rewrite the story remembering to use story language?
/ Topic - Toys
Draw pictures and label your favourite toys that you play with at home. Write some sentences to describe your toys. Think about the materials that they are made from and how you might play with them. / Science – Using our senses.
Sit in your living room at home and close your eyes for 1 minute. Write down and draw all the different sounds that you can hear. / Topic - Toys
On a piece of paper design your own toy. What resources will you use to make it? / Science – Using our senses.
Make a poster showing your 5 different senses. What do you use each sense for? Describe each sense. / Topic - Toys
Use different boxes and resources from home to make your own toy (designed in week 3).
Stay and Play
Attend our Stay and Play sessions every Friday at 2.00pm and engage in a range of fun and exciting learning activities to support your child’s learning. This session can also be used to guide you with any homework or blog queries.
This half term our focus is: Reading and Phonics.
Week 1 – Cinderella

Week 4 – Hansel and Gretel / Weekly Home Expectations
You will also be expected to:
Read your reading book daily.
Practise to read and write your weekly spellings.
Practise to recite and recall your 2, 5 and 10 x tables.
Contribute to the class blog and complete termly challenges.
