Dance & Musical Theatre
Middle School Elective
The Dance & Musical Theatre Middle School Elective is a class that offers great fun with a foundation etched in integrity and discipline by each and every student. Dance & Musical Theatre is a one-year course. Students will study the elements of dance through the exploration of Ballet, Modern, Jazz and Armenian dance. Students will also have the opportunity to explore classic and contemporary styles of Musical Theatre. This class is open to 6th, 7th, 8th grade students and is a graded middle school elective class. All Middle School Dance & Musical Theatre students must attend the Spring Dance & Art Show on March 11th or 12th.
All students must attend two after school rehearsals on Wednesday April 6th and Thursday April 7th from 3:30-5:30 and perform in the Middle School Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre Production on Friday April 8, 2016 at 7:30pm.
All students must pay a class fee of $60. This fee is due on or by Monday September 21, 2015.
Student Daily Requirements
· Black work-out clothes (NO:jeans, baggy hanging pants, short crop tops, writing or designs on clothing)
· Pink Ballet Shoes
· Appropriate support undergarments
· Water (you are not permitted to leave class for water...remember your own)
· Towel & Deodorant
Class Etiquette
· Bare feet or appropriate dance shoes in studio only
· Hair must be secured away from face
· No cell phones or electronic devices
· No jewelry or watches
· No GUM
· No food or beverages in class (except your personal water)
Areas of Assessment and Consequences
Each students academic and citizenship grade is based on the individuals discipline, commitment, participation, follow-through, self-respect, respect of others, positive attitude, creativity, contribution, ability to take risks, personal growth, completed assignments,tests, journal entries, and attendance.
Grading Scale
· 60% Attendance, Participation, Discipline, Commitment, and Attitude (3pts per class)
· 20% Individual Progress and Performances
· 20% Assignments and Tests
Infraction Minus Points
Students are expected to be on time and prepared for class everyday. Tardiness or excessive absences will be reflected in the students grade. If a student is tardy more than three times in one school year their grade will be dropped one letter grade. Attendance records begin anew at the start of every semester.

Removing Infraction Minus Points
“I.M.P Credits” are given for dance articles, observation sheets/journal assignments and research projects. Students can makeup excused absences by turning in a dance article. Dance articles are worth 6 points each. Please see dance article handout for more details.
If a student comes to class and feels they are too sick or injured to participate - without a parent or doctor’s note - they will be sent to the health office and can make up minus points for that class.
If a student is sick or injured, with a parent (after 3 days student must have a doctor’s note) or doctor’s note, they will have to do an observation sheet (1 point), journal assignment and/or a research project (points TBD) for each day they are sitting out of class.
