Reports to:Senior Manager of Creative Services

Purpose of job:

To provide expert print advice and manage quality control, ensuring all print design is delivered to the highest standard and to provide print quotations and liaise with printers as required.

Impact:

No direct reports, but manages printers and other relevant external suppliers.

Financial responsibility:

Management of print budget together with Creative Project Managers (Approx.70K).

Decision making responsibility:

Needs to apply independent judgement and be able to influence peers, senior employees and external suppliers. Refers to line manager for strategic decisions.

Main accountabilities:

  1. To work closely with the design and creative project

management team to provideprint specs for internal

stakeholders based on their needs, budgets and the print

designers’ recommendations and designs.

  1. Obtainingquotations from a range of print suppliers (ideallythree per project).
  2. Collaborating with, and supporting print designers tochampion innovation and creativity.
  1. Checking printer’s proofs, feeding back and working closely with designers and printers to safeguard quality and accuracy.
  1. Always working to get the best value for the organisation’smoney.
  1. Attending weekly workflow meetings and proactively followingup on anything print related.
  1. Managing print deadlines and alerting stakeholders wherethese are unrealistic and cannot be met.
  1. Maintaining up-to-date contact information for all printers and print-related suppliers, and proactively seeking to develop new relationships with suppliers where relevant.
  1. Maintaining and developing strong supplier relationships.
  1. Monitoring all in-house, external printing charges, and reviewing vendor invoices, including shipping receipts, andresolving billing discrepancies.
  1. Maintain archives of all final art-work created in-house and externally.
  1. To maintain an overview of the stakeholdersprinted materialsportfolios.

General

  1. Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post.

Person specification

All criteria are essential unless otherwise stated

  1. Specialist knowledge, skills and experience
  2. A thorough understanding of printing processes.
  3. Experience of pulling together print specifications to obtain quotations and of buying print.
  4. Experience of working with print designers/ design.
  5. Experience of press passing and working closely with printers.
  6. Experience of project management including delivering projects on time and on budget.
  7. Experience of the complete publishing process, from original concept to production, and distribution.
  8. Ability to use Microsoft Office packages (in particular Word, Excel and Powerpoint). Knowledge of Adobe InDesign creative suite to take initial designs through to finished artwork would be an advantage.
  9. Experience of accurate proofreading and checking artwork would be an advantage.
