COURSE SYLLABUS

I. COURSE TITLE AND NUMBER

Physical Activity 125

Weight Training

II. SEMESTER CREDIT HOURS

2 semester credit hours

III. CATALOG DESCRIPTION/PURPOSE

Various weight training programs presented. Emphasis on the safe use of the Universal Weight machine, understanding the principles of training, and the development of individual fitness goals. May be repeated for credit. One hour and two one-hour labs.

IV. GOALS/OBJECTIVES

The student will:

1. Learn proper safety techniques associated with weight training.

2. Practice proper warm-up and cool-down procedures.

3. Actively participate in individualized exercise programs with/without weights and an aerobic program to increase their cardiovascular efficiency.

4. Demonstrate proper lifting techniques, and will progress to different systems of lifting as the class progresses.

5. Devise goals for themselves and the proper exercises required to meet those goals.

6. Be able to identify specific muscles and muscle groups.

V. COURSE CONTENT

1. Safety techniques associated with proper weight training programs.

2. Participation in an individualized male/female weight exercise program and aerobic activities to increase overall body cardiovascular efficiency.

3. Knowledge of proper weight lifting technique(s) and implementation into the weight training program.

4. Affected muscle groups of the weight training program.
