Cold War Time Capsule LettersProject

Imagine that you have moved to a new house in an older neighborhood. There is a giant tree in the backyard that provides a lot of shade for you to sit in while reading a book. This morning, when you were sitting against the tree, your dog started digging near the roots. Curious about what he was trying to find, you got up to take a closer look. You started to see something shiny and decided to help little Dog dig up the item. You have discovered a time capsule left behind by the prior homeowners, the Dloc family.

IN CLASS “Who Packet”

  1. Divide up key words by letter and create a set of 41 group flashcards for letters 1-4 and 13individual flashcards for letter #5.
  2. Take notes on your topic and key words for each letter using several sources.
  3. Createtextbook timelines describing each event.
  4. Write letter #1-4 with your group. You write a part of the Rough Draft using your words. Must have flash cards done to participate with group.
  5. Letter #5 you will write by yourself using your flashcards.
  6. You will use these letters to take 5 Summative Quizzes.
  7. Put all typed letters/EXTRAS in a Mason Jar for others to open and look at.

AT HOME “Who Packet”

  1. Review “Crash Course” Video segments by John Green and other videos. Take notes and add to your KEYword flashcards.
  2. Captain, Cheerleader, Grader and Time Keeper each type/highlight/print 2 /share 1letter each and create an EXTRA.

Letters will be read by History Club at Ashby Ponds Retirement Community. Individuals who lived this time period and experienced these events “IRL”. Do your best, to show them what you learned. They will be reading your work and grading you. They will also come talk to you about your letters afterschool on June 4th from 3:30-5:30.
