Endangered Species Study
Background:
Every single species is needed to maintain a balanced food web. Some species only have one item that they eat and are now on the endangered list. People are killing many species for their fur or skin, meat, sport, etc. Other species are dying because of habitat loss and pollution also caused by man. This project is to help students become aware of an endangered species. Your mission is to learn why a species has become endangered and what can be done about the organism’s problem. Develop a description of the organism and its lifestyle.
Part I. Chose an endangered species you are interested in (no species will be chosen by more than one group) from Mrs. Epperley’s List
- You may work in a group of two or individually
- Write on the signup sheet the organism that you want to work on that is not already taken
- Signup sheet is in Mrs. Epperley’s Room
Part II. Research the following:
- Why is your species endangered?
- What is the current status of the species in the wild? And In captivity?
- What can be done to protect your species from extinction?
- What is/are the Geographical location/s where your species lives-include conditions (Climate issues)?
- What does your organism eat?
- Does it migrate?
- If so, where and how often?
- If so, does it migrate in groups or by itself?
- How often can it reproduce?
- Include the average number of offspring
- Does it have the same mate for life or not? (Explain relationship)
- Lifespan
- Give a physical and behavior description of the organism.
Part III. Presentations
- Each person or group will be responsible for giving a 2-3 minute presentation on its organism in PowerPoint format.
- Work Cited Page (3-5 different sources –No encyclopedia like sources will count)
- Lots of pictures
- Transitions and background changes
- Only 5 lines per slide
- Make sure font can be readily seen over backgrounds/pictures
- Save on to a Flash drive or email it to the teacher-DO NOT PUT IT ON YOUR SCHOOL ACCOUNT
