Program Specialist

Position Description

  1. The title of the person holding the position shall be Latino Scoutreach Program Specialist. The Latino Scoutreach Program Specialist is responsible to the Field Director to which he is assigned.
  1. The Program Specialist is expected to give leadership as Cubmaster and/or Scoutmaster of Cub Scout packs and/or Boy Scout troops to which he is assigned. Youth will be recruited to be members of the Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops by inviting them to join through school assemblies, church assemblies, organization programs, etc.
  1. The Program Specialist is required to take the training necessary to fulfill the resposibilities of the position and is expected to attend district functions such as Roundtable Meetings, etc., that will enable them to function properly in this capacity.
  1. The Program Specialist is required to be at every Cub Scout meeting and Boy Scout meeting, to accompany the units on activities, hikes, and overnight encampments, and, if at all possible, long term summer camp.
  1. The Program Specialist shall be supported by Executive Staff personnel and by being provided with accessibility to uniforms, literature, equipment, material, camping facilities and equipment support when needed.
  1. It is the intent of the program that indigenous unit leadership will be recruited to give supervision to the Cub Scout pack and Boy Scout troop once they are operational. However, the Program Specialist shall be resposible for their ongoing supervision and operation. The Program Specialist is expected to service and maintain Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops in institutions as they are organized. It is the objective to have the institution eventually serve as the full sponsor for the unit and give leadership to it through standard methods of organization and operation.
  1. Although the number of hours expected to be put in on the job may be difficult to define, it is expected that the person holding this position will perform in a manner which enables the units to function properly. Up to 20 hours per week will be allotted to complete the task of servicing all assigned Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops.

Qualifications for the Position

Ability to work well with people of all backgrounds, mature judgement, leadership abilities, flexible schedule, desire to serve youth, ability to produce Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs which will attract a high degree of membership participation, willingness to follow professional leadership, twenty one years of age or older. Individual must read and speak Spanish and English fluently. Have an interest in outdoor programming for youth. Scouting background helpful, but not required.

Salary

$12.00 to $15.00 per hour depending on qualifications. Work related travel expenses reimbursed.
