Dear Florida State Representative Nunez:
As parents of the Miami Arts Studio (M.A.S.) at Zelda Glazer (6-12) School, and voting members of this community, we are asking that an auditorium facility be built for this school in the adjacent lot.
An on-site auditorium would satisfy both the instructional and performance needs of MASMiddle school and high school students. This all-purpose facility at the school site would address a number of current issues with the magnet school. Although we have a cafeteria, its limited capacity and lack of facilities makes most school activities and event impossible. As an example, the eighth grade promotional ceremony is those students receiving awards because there is no room for the entire grade level and their families. This leaves many students and their families from participating in this special event. Additionally, magnet perfromances which would otherwise be performed in one or two evenings have to be divided into four days because the capacity to house the community of families and students is limited. This puts an unnecessary burden on the students, and school staff. Every high school in Miami-Dade County has an auditorium. Some high schools not only have the auditorium, but also a gymnasium. Some of these schools have considerably les student than MAS at Zelda Glazer.
In order to facilitate this kind of construction, we are requesting the use of the property adjacent to MAS at Zelda Glazer, which is owned by Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Currently, the School District is not utilizing the adjacent property. As the school expands into a fully functioning high school with a fine arts magnet program, the school doesn’t have the means to provide the students with the space they need to practice and perform in order to have high quality, expanding theatre, dance, and music programs. When we, the parents, voted to give Miami-Dade County Public Schools the bond money, it was for the purpose of needed construction and updating of school properties. We believe this is exactly what the bond money was intended for, and we assure that this project will have a strong community support.
Providing an auditorium for MAS at Zelda Glazer will allow the delivery of services that the students deserve in order to have a successful fine arts magnet. We ask hat you consider our request and grant us this much needed facility for the future of the school and the students.
Sincerely,
Parents and Families of MAS at Zelda Glazer
