Why is the unemployment rate so high?
A recent study by the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) showed that unemployment rate in the Ivory Coast region has raised to around 40%-50%.
On September 2002 while the government was in Italy some demobilised troops waiting to be disarmed, decided to attack several cities. War broke out between the country; thousands fled for safety. Later the government would regain control of the main city Abidjan. But still fighting was fluent in the northern part of the country. During this time war-lords and terrorist made use of the civil war and took over certain parts of the country.
To worsen the situation the French invaded the country and supported the Rebels and the government causing more fighting. Many peace acts were made to try and calm the situation but despite their attempts the rebels continued fighting. Today however fighting has become a lot less futile but the country is still very unstable. The events that occurred are the reason why unemployment rate is so high.
While rebels were fighting to continue working was impossible. The war left it too hard to work. Also at least 90% of Ivoirians were not educated well enough to work. To be able to learn was only available for the rich and privileged. Most people who needed a job to support not just them but their family were not well enough educated to apply. Another factor to unemployment is the government.
With the government unable to supply a good infrastructure to support the needs of its country adds to already bad situation. The final problem adding to the situation is those entering the country. Why would someone select an uneducated Ivorian over a well educated immigrant? They wouldn’t which makes unemployment rate even higher. This is why Unemployment Rate so High!!
Don Bosco would support to decrease the rate of unemployment because of his catholic background. He would always offer to support those in need and he would love to see young children getting a good education. With young boys getting good education the unemployment rate would certainly decrease and the country would probably become more stable. Don Bosco would certainly support these reasons and would always support those in need .
How can it be improved?
In the past decade, the Cote D'ivoire was rocked a horrible, tragic civil war. This meant that the unemployment rate is higher than ever. Half of the people living in Cote D'ivoire are unemployed , this is very bad seeing that Cote D'ivoire is one of the poorest countries in the world. Cote D'ivoire is the worlds biggest producer of cocoa beans in the world. Although this is good for the employment rate, not everybody can be in the same business. One way to dramatically reduce the unemployment rate is to reunite the country after the civil war. If everyone works together and tries to fix this problem, then there unemployment rate will be a lot higher. If Cote D'ivoire win the world cup, it will not only give them more money, but it will be great for publicity in the country. They will be more well known and many businesses will come there because of its growing publicity. Also, Cote D'ivoire’s main raw material is manganese, they produce 150,000 tonnes a year. By 2012, China has promised to raise the amount of manganese produced to 300,00 tonnes. This would create countless job opportunities in the mines. Once again if they had the publicity, they could keep improving this number and making more job opportunities. There are many ways to improve the unemployment rate, but overall Cote D'ivoire need to join forces and do things as a nation. They were gutted by the civil war and are trying to recover. To improve the unemployment rate. The people need to work together.
