What is a Short Breaks Grant?

A Short Breaks Grant is a payment from Enfield’s Joint Service for Disabled Children, as a contribution towards the cost of services and support for your child.

If your child has been assessed as having Medium support needs you can choose:

A Short Breaks Grant for activities of £500.00 per year – see FactsheetSB2 for more information about how this can be used. Please note that this type of grant is available if the child or young person is aged between 5 and 17 years.

OR

A Short Breaks Grant for services of £1000.00 per year – see FactsheetSB2 for more information about how this can be used. Please note that this type of grant is available if the child or young person is aged between 8 and 17 years.

If your child has been assessed as having High support needs you can choose:

A Short Breaks Grant for activities of £750.00 per year – see FactsheetSB3 for more information about how this can be used. Please note that this type of grant is available if the child or young person is aged between 5 and 17 years.

OR

A Short Breaks Grant for services of £1500.00 per year – see FactsheetSB3 for more information about how this can be used. Please note that this type of grant is available if the child or young person is aged between 8 and 17 years.

The Short Breaks Grant will be paid in three payments – in April, July and December.

You will be able to decide how you use the Grant to best meet the needs of your child and family.

If you would like to receive a Short Breaks Grant you must:

  • Open a separate bank account for the Grant to be paid into.
  • Complete three-monthly monitoring detailing how the Grant has been used, providing invoices and receipts.
  • Provide three-monthly bank statements.
