MIDDLE SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION 2016-2017 – 6th Grade

OVERVIEW

The purpose of middle school physical education at St. Croix Catholic School is to equip students with the necessary skills to be physically active for a lifetime, make healthy choices, and grow in holiness and virtue. This is accomplished through a variety of activities and units, including team and individual sports, physical fitness, team building and communication, rhythm and movements in addition to various health topics.

  • The students in 6th grade can expect to continue to work on their skills in the various units taught.
  • Improvement should be seen in areas of accuracy, consistency and form or technique (as demonstrated in class).
  • Doing your personal best is expected.
  • All units will have some time spent on the rules and actual play of the sport when the class shows their skills are ready for game situations.
  • Short written tests based on the rules are given after each unit.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION EXPECTATIONS

  • STUDENTS MUST WEAR APPROPRIATE* TENNIS SHOES AND DESIGNATED P.E. UNIFORM
  • *Appropriate includes the correct type as well as having tied laces; give your ankles the support they need when being active.
  • “Middle School students are required to change into a specific P.E. uniform consisting of a T-shirt and shorts. These items can be purchased from Donald’s Department Store.” –St.Croix Catholic School Parent-Student Handbook
  • For safety reasons, jewelry should be left in your lockers.
  • Wear stud earrings at your own risk.
  • PARTICIPATION IS KEY!!!
  • Everyone needs to give his or her best every day. To be excused from class for medical reasons, a written note is needed from a parent. If the excuse is needed for more than four days, a note from a physician is required.
  • During Catholic Schools Week, the entire middle school will be taking a ski trip to Afton Alps for a day of learning and fun. This is a requirement for all middle school students. Students not attending the trip but would normally be at school will be required to complete an essay on a topic in a list given at the time. More details to come.
  • BE ON TIME TO CLASS!!!
  • Change quickly and enter the gym ready to listen. Three or more tardies will result in a phone call to parents, in accordance with St. Croix Catholic School Parent-Student Handbook regulations. 3 knocks on the locker room door – you have one minute to be in the gym at your assigned spot.
  • RESPECT YOURSELF, OTHERS, AND ALL FACILITIES.
  • Defiance, disrespect, and bullying will not be tolerated.
  • Each class will be expected to keep and leave locker rooms orderly. This is a group effort! Follow through of this expectation will be reflected in each class’ overall score for the Verso L’Alto Award at the end of each quarter.
  • Deodorant isn’t a bad idea! Over-spraying it is! Keep others in mind as we all need clean air to breathe. Some lungs are sensitive to perfumes.
  • INVEST: THE MORE YOU PUT INTO CLASS THE MORE YOU’LL GET OUT OF IT.
  • Listening and following directions increases the amount of playing time.
