ALGEBRA II COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Please visit my website to review and/or print a copy of the Course Description/Syllabus.It is based on the brand NEW Common Core Curriculum the State has set forth.
ASSIGNMENTS: Assignments are very important and must be done neatly and completely in order for you to receive credit. Homework will be assigned daily and you are expected to attempt each problem assigned. You must show your work when completing homework assignments, as the process is just as important as the answer. All assignments are to be done on loose-leaf paper and kept in your binder unless otherwise directed. Each assignment should include your name, the date, the page number and exercises assigned. Assignments could be collected and/or checked/graded daily. Homework is intended to build and reinforce the skills taught in class and to improve performance on tests and quizzes.
QUIZZES: Quizzes will be given throughout the term and will range in point value (8 – 24 pts). Quizzes may be announced or unannounced, and may include information from homework/classwork, class notes, daily warm-ups or any other material that was discussed in class.
TESTS:There will be several tests each grading period, which cover larger amounts of material. Two types of testing will be used, multiple choice and “constructed response”. Each test will be worth a maximum of 40 points. ON TEST DAYS, FOR TEST SECURITY, BOOK BAGS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT YOUR DESK! BOOK BAGS MUST BE PLACED IN THE FRONT OR REAR OF THE CLASSROOM. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!
ABSENTEEISM: STATE LAW: Students are allowed a maximum of (5) days per SEMESTER! A student may fail a course due to excessive absences! It is your responsibility to make up any work, tests or quizzes that are missed. Tests/quizzes must be made up within 3 days of your return, BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL ONLY. For any/all other assignments, the student may call/text a classmate to get the work missed or can visit my web page. Students can’t miss vital class time on new material to make-up a past assignment/quiz/test. This would only put the student further behind. Please try to make every effort to be present when a test is given. Tests will be announced at least 3 days in advance. Therefore, if you are absent the day before the test, you will be expected to take the test with the class since no new material is presented the day before a test. Some exceptions may be granted for extreme circumstances.
STUDENT CONDUCT: STRICT ADHERENCE TO THE GUIDELINES OF STUDENT CONDUCT IS EXPECTED AT ALL TIMES! The appropriate actions will be taken if these rules are not followed. There is no eating or drinking allowed in the classrooms. If a student is tardy, they receive a detention on the 1st tardy to class periods 2nd – 7th. There are separate consequences for a “check-in” tardy to 1st hour class. Each student is limited to (3) bathroom passes per nine-weeks, per class. I.D.’s MUST be worn at ALL times. If not, this will result in a detention on the 1st offense. Being in class is very important and pertinent to your child’s success in school. AGAIN, PLEASE READ COVINGTON HIGH AND ST. TAMMANY PARISH’S GUIDES TO STUDENT CONDUCT THOROUGHLY!
CELL PHONES: OKAY, WE KNOW YOU HAVE THEM, BUT YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE THEM IN CLASS! THIS MEANS: NO TEXTING, NO TALKING, NO PLAYING GAMES!!! ALSO, BECAUSE OF CELL PHONE ISSUES, BOOK BAGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON YOUR DESK during regular classroom instruction!
DETENTIONS: Detentions will be issued per school policy. Please refer to the Student Handbook.
