If you would like to keep your child home for this historical event, the normal absentee policy must be followed. Students will be required to bring in a note for their absence to be excused. If you would like to sign your child out early, students should be signed out no later than noon on this day. All afterschool activities have been cancelled.
Before Monday, we ask that you speak to your child about the dangers of looking directly at the sun and the potential damage this can cause to their eyes.Looking directly at the sun is unsafe and permanent eye damage may occur. This is especially true during the partial phases of a solar eclipse. Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun; they transmit too many of the Sun's rays and cannot properly protect your eyes.
We are also asking that all drivers use an abundance of caution, on the road and in parent pickup, to avoid distracted drivers and pedestrians.
For the safety of all students, students are not permitted to bring personally purchased eclipse glasses or homemade viewing devices to school for personal use on this day.
Teen Driver Message:
The School District of Palm Beach County is asking parents to speak to their teen drivers about road safety during the eclipse that will take place on Monday, August 21st. The peak of the eclipse will be occurring at dismissal time for high school students. Student drivers should be cautioned to use extra care to watch for distracted drivers, and to keep their eyes on the road at all times.
