Congregation News.

The Sisters Breakfast on May 3rd was as always interesting and enjoyable, the speaker Ms.Bex Turner gave an excellent talk on the work of Christian Aid in Ethiopea. Many thanks to Sr. Lesley Benedek for the lovely arrangements and flowers.

The weather on Whit Sundaywas cloudy and cold but it did not deter the churches and thoughwe were few in number it was good to be part of the Walk of Witness and afterwards join with Trinity in theirService.

At the Service on May 3rd The news was coming through about the dreadful earthquake in Nepal and Br. Hopcroft who has first-hand knowledge about our churches and work in Nepal was able to inform us that the Church in Kathmandu was safe but work in other areas had suffered damage. Br. Hopcroft knew our Brothers and Sisters in Nepal personally and this brought the news very close to us. P.E.C. will be sending money directly to our work in Nepal. A collection was organised and during the week-end of the Anniversary donations were given, flower arrangements were auctioned andaltogether £411 was raised. This money we send with our Love and our Prayers.

The Churches Together in Royton have organised aSponsored Walk, this is similar to one held last year, were an opportunity is given to visit some of the churches in Royton. This year the walk starts at St. James’ Thornham on to Gravel Hole and then to Fir Lane, the walk then proceeds to Tandle Hills and back to St.James were there will be a Faith Tea. Srs. Ann Corr and Lesley Benedek can give more details and there will be a sponsor form in church. The walk is in a nice area and we are sure will be very enjoyable

The 150th Anniversary, what a wonderful week-end! where does one begin?, thank you to everyone who sent mementoes, photos, what a lovely display we had (wish there had been more room ) each window had a flower arrangement…Weddings….Loved ones ….M.W.A….Remembrance WW1 & WW2….Children’s….Christenings….and the “handprints” we received so many, these became a tree with branches “ OUR CHURCH FAMILY” Br. John McOwat led our Service on the Sunday with an inspiring address remembering all those who through the years have loved and served our Church. The church was full all weekend, full of friendship, fellowship, memories oh! so many memories! but such a positive way to start a new era. I think our forefathers would have said it was “a reet good do”

Br. Tom Turner was 85 on May 4th, a little late Tom, but congratulations and love on your Birthday
