Job title:Cleaner

Grade:B

Hours:Part Time (5 hours per week)

Responsible to:Headteacher / Teaching Staff

Important Functional Relationships:Teachers, pupils, support staff, parents

Main Purpose of the Job

To undertake, individually or as part of a team, the cleaning of the school and ensure it is kept in a clean and hygienic condition.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of the school and for maintaining high and consistent standards
  2. Use cleaning materials as required whilst ensuring health and safety guidelines are adhered to
  3. Operate cleaning machinery in cleaning soft and hard surfaces e.g. vacuum cleaners and polishers
  4. Carry out the following duties:
  • Vacuum cleaning hard and soft floors
  • Spot cleaning of spillages
  • Wiping furniture, ledges, pipes, paintwork, doors and polishing door glass
  • Emptying and cleaning bins
  • Cleaning toilets including sanitary fittings and surrounds
  • Mopping and spray cleaning hard floor surfaces
  • Wiping and polishing and straightening furniture
  • Replenishing janitorial supplies in toilets etc
  • Checking and closing windows, switching off lights
  • Such other duties as may be allocated from time to time
  • All defects/hazards must be immediately reported
  1. You will maintain Health and Safety procedures at all times. You will:
  2. Ensure the security of the building i.e. check windows and doors are closed/locked
  3. Report any faults to electrical cleaning equipment, do not use until fault is repaired
  4. Ensure correct policy and procedures are maintained including Health and Safety COSHH, Manual Handling etc
  5. Only use authorised cleaning materials, ensure the correct dilution rate as directed and used only for the purpose indicated
  1. Ensure all PPE issued is worn at all times, including tabbards and rubber gloves
  1. Display wet floor signs when cleaning floors
  1. You will be an effective part of the school team. You will:
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Participate in training sessions as required
  • Maintain school policy and procedures
  1. Undertake cleaning during periods when the school is closed; routine cleaning is undertaken throughout the school. This may include stripping and sealing floors, high level dusting, wall washing, etc
  1. To undertake all duties and responsibilities with due regard to the School’s Security Policy and, in particular, remain aware of intruders entering the school grounds
  1. To be aware of the School’s child protection policy/procedures and report any concerns observed during the course of duty in accordance with such procedures
  1. To maintain confidentiality of information acquired in the course of undertaking duties for the School
  1. To undertake other duties appropriate to the grading of the post as required

Relevant Experience / Previous experience of a range of cleaning duties. / Application form/ interview.
Education & Training / Able to demonstrate a good level of knowledge through practical relevant experience.
Knowledge of some Health and Safety Regulations. / Basic First Aid Certificate.

Special Knowledge & Skills / Good communication skills.
