Peregrine Watch at the Roaches attracts some 6,000 visitors from April – June each year. Visitors get the opportunity to watch peregrine falcons rearing their young in a natural setting. The main aim of Peregrine Watch is to inspire visitors to the Roaches of the wonders of British wildlife, however the presence of volunteers also acts to minimise disturbance to these protected species and promote the work of the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating volunteers as well as assisting at peregrine watch during busy periods.
Job Purpose:

Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is seeking a friendly, independent team member who is passionate about wildlife to co-ordinate our annual Peregrine Watch at the Roaches in the Staffordshire Moorlands. You’ll join our enthusiastic team and will be responsible for co-ordinating and recruiting volunteers to Peregrine Watch as well as interacting with visitorsduring busy periods.
Responsibilities:
  1. Communicating with our established team of volunteers to ensure that Peregrine Watch is adequately staffedat key times.
  2. Acting in a friendly, welcoming and professional manner at all times.
  3. Being responsible for communicating key information to volunteers about the birds’ protected status, nesting requirements and ensuring volunteers know which climbs are closed due to the nesting birds so they can communicate this information to visitors.
  4. Being responsible for monitoring and updating the online volunteer schedule.
  5. Working closely with the Roaches wardens and reporting any gaps in the volunteer schedule to the Roaches Warden and agreeing suitable promotion to attract more volunteers if needed.
  6. Taking part in Peregrine Watch during weekends / bank holiday periods. This will involveengaging with passers-by, encouraging visitorsto come into the ‘Watch’ area to view the birds, passing on key information about the birds, climbing restrictions, temporary path closures.
  7. Working outdoors and setting up display equipment
  8. In order for the organisation to work effectively you may be required to assist with other areas of work and therefore you should be prepared to undertake other duties, appropriate to the post, as delegated by your line manager. All staff are required to abide by organisational policies and procedures.
