I. Hidden Valley Status Report—An updated State of the School Report was passed out to SLT members.

  • School Improvement Plan Review—The SIP that was submitted to the CEZ was reviewed by SLT members.
  • Mission Statement Review—The mission statement that received the highest percentage of votes (40.8%) was “Our mission is to provide a positive learning environment where students will grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We will strive to create self-confident, critical thinking, successful learners.” This is our new mission statement.

II. Curriculum and Instruction

  • Guided Reading—Professional Development is progressing. Ms. Zdrojewski sent out a revised schedule. The guided reading library is ready and available for checkout. Ms. Zdrojewski, Ms. Allen, and Ms. Shumaker will be videotaping guided reading lessons at all grade levels for teachers to view.
  • Media and Technology Advisory Committee—Ms. Council needs participants to sit on this committee. SLT members should poll their grade level to see who is interested. The committee will make recommendations for book purchases and review letters of interest to receive promethean boards.
  • 360 Cameras--Mr. Brizz will be doing a training on Wednesday. We can request these cameras for 2 weeks at a time. Teachers are encouraged to use these to reflect on their teaching.

III. Team Leaders Reports and Updates

  • Employee of the Month Submissions—Teachers are encouraged to recommend colleagues for this award.
  • Kindergartern—Class of 2024 is currently using formative data to group students by ability in order to differentiate their instruction. This week they are beginning their common task for math. They will use this data to group across classes.
  • Grade 1—absent
  • Grade 2—Finished administering DIBELS and are beginning to look at the data. Their current science unit is finished and the culminating activity is to create volcanoes using mentos and soda.
  • Grade 3—Finished administering DIBELS and looked at the data in their data meeting last week are in the process of deciding on groupings based on the students’ specific needs. They have many students that are considered high risk.
  • Grade 4—absent
  • Grade 5—absent
  • ESL and EC—They are waiting for the DIBELS scores from the various grade levels so they can better serve their students. They appreciate the classroom teachers keeping them in the loop as they complete assessments.

IV. Student Intervention Services/ Family Involvement

  • PTA Meeting/Election of Officers—Ms. Wilson is our new president. She has a child in Ms. Peay’s room. Members of the PTA will vote on the other officers after we have a membership drive as only paid members can vote.
  • Attendance and Uniforms—The support staff’s goal is to have 90% of the students with 10 or fewer unexcused absences. Last week a group of students went to Operation School Bell. There was a fantastic turnout for the Hispanic Heritage Event. Mr. Rios and Ms. Jorge request that the teachers let them know when they send something to parents. They are trying to field questions, but have no idea what the communication was that went home.

V. Parent and Staff Input, Questions and

Closing Remarks

  • Ms. Beavers mentioned the need to get more African American parents involved in their child’s education. Some ideas that were brainstormed include making personal phone calls, making an extra effort to include them when they do come in, finding a way to show them all the good things that are going on at the school, and thinking about if we are being the teacher that we would want for our own children. This will be an on-going discussion. Any ideas are welcomed.
