01 Job Purpose

To work as part of the Digital Services team in order to facilitate the internal and external maintenance and delivery of all web based output.

02 Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work alongside the Digital Services Manager to collaboratively define the creation, direction and output of the forces web based applications and products
  • To work within a creative team, assisting with briefs, idea development and concepts, primarily working alongside, and with, the Digital Services Team Manager

and Corporate Communications department as part of a project plan and brief

  • To produce wireframe and mock up designs of website designs in Photoshop
  • To code, using industry standard software and procedures, from supplied designs to final outputted work in HTML5 / CSS3
  • To be fully aware of all modern day web technologies and languages, including the ability to adapt and create websites for all modern platforms (e.g. tablet, mobile etc) and browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari etc)
  • To work alongside the Web Developer to implement and execute the necessary work to enhance and complement the programming work created
  • To test all work produced for all relevant platforms and browsers and implement fixes and solutions to ensure a standard browsing experience for the end user
  • To be an expert in modern day content management systems, including administration, management and template creation
  • To be able to manage a project from conceptualisation to ‘go-live’, working alongside colleagues, ICT and the Communications team
  • To have expert knowledge of most industry standard creative software packages including Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • To have an understanding of developer languages such as ASP, .NET and PHP and to have experience working with databases (MySQL)
  • To have a complete understanding of all aspects of social media, how we use it and the part that a web designer can play in it
  • To undertake necessary auditing and recording of aspects relevant to their role, and publishing these on a regular basis (e.g. webstats)
  • To have an interest in keeping up to date with advances in computer technology and the internet and how this affects the business environment
  • To be able to give basic training in applications relevant to their role to colleagues
  • To work alongside colleagues in the Digital Services team to offer resilience and help as and when required
  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with the purpose and grading of the post that may from time to time be determined

03 Skills

  • To be naturally creative and imaginative and with a proven history of work from concept to output
  • Expert knowledge of web programming software (e.g. Dreamweaver)
  • Proven ability of working with Adobe Creative Suite software, particularly Photoshop
  • Ability to work on your own, using your initiative as well as being able to work as part of a team.

05 Supervision Received

The post holder will be supervised by the Digital Services Team Manager.

06 Special Conditions

May be required on occasions to work outside normal working hours, according to operational requirements.
