Used for quantities of sheet goods (drywall, plywood, or sheathing), building leasing or sales, sometimes flooring, masonry, etc.
2) Hundred Square Feet – CSF – 100 x 1’ x 1’
Used for large quantities of sheet goods (drywall, plywood, or sheathing), building leasing or sales, sometimes flooring, masonry, etc.
3)Linear Foot – LF = Total length of stock
Used for quantities of trim, baseboard, fencing, railing, piping, etc.
4)Hundred Linear Feet – CLF - Total length of stock / 100
Used for large quantities of trim, baseboard, fencing, railing, piping, etc.
5)Board Foot – BF = 1’ x 1’ x 1” or 12” x 12” x 1” or 144 cubic inches
Used for quantities or lumber, hardwoods, softwoods, and dimensional.
6)Thousand Board Foot – MBF = 1000 x 1’ x 1’ x 1” or 1000 x 12” x 12” x 1” or 144,000 cubic inches

10)Roll – RL = Rolled up materials
Used for quantities of wire, felt paper, fencing, nail gun nails, rolled roofing, etc.
11)Bundle – Bdl. = Tied up bundle of materials
Used for quantities of shims, stakes, shake shingles, shingles, etc.

14) Ton – Ton = 2000 lbs.

15) Bucket – Bkt = Can be different sizes of buckets
Used for quantities of soil, sand, or aggregate (Front loader bucket), or nails, screws, or other attaching hardware sold in large quantities.
16) Gallon – Gal. = Liquid measure of volume
Used for quantities of paint, stain, acids, sealers, water, waste, etc.
17) Pound – lb = 16 ounces, a measure of weight
Used for quantities of nails, screws, soil, rock, sand, aggregate, etc.
18) Piece – pc. = a single item of measure
Used for quantities of items of ornamental iron, cabinets, special trim, plastic parts, etc.
19) Unit – unit = a measure consisting of a manufactures fixture
Used for quantities of items like furnaces, air conditioners, plumbing fixtures, electrical fixtures, cabinets, etc.
20)Hour – Hr – One hour of labor worked or equipment usage
21)Man / Hour – Mn/Hr – Work completed by one man in one hour
22)Day – DY – One work day
A day of work not including a holiday, weekend, or non-typical (overtime) hours.
Your costing books may have other units of measure specific to certain types of work to be completed. Always use the unit of measure for your costing as you would need to order or acquire that resource you are putting into your estimate.
