A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE REVEREND ELLA DELORES WHITE FOR HER YEARS OF OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE TO THE MOUNT OLIVE BAPTIST CHURCH CONGREGATION AND THE COLUMBIA COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize and honor Reverend Ella D. White, who answered the call of the Holy Spirit in serving those around her; and

Whereas, Reverend Ella D. White, born in Chester, Pennsylvania, is the daughter of the late James and Estelle Washington White. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Columbia, South Carolina and pursued postsecondary studies in Elementary Education at Allen University, in Business Administration at Limestone College, and in Secondary Education at Benedict College. She received her Certificate of Theology from Interdenominational Theological College in Atlanta, Georgia in May 2007; and

Whereas, Reverend White accepted the call to preach the gospel in May 2004 and was ordained in December 2006 by Midlands Baptist Association, Inc., with ReverendDr. Blakely N. Scott as moderator; and

Whereas, Reverend White is a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina and has held leadership positions for up to forty years. She hasserved asdeacon, founder of the Benevolent Ministry, president and member of the Usher’s Ministry, financial secretary, youth department coordinator,pastor’s aide chaplain, and Sunday school teacher. She also accomplished national qualification as an usher’s trainer at the local level from the Progressive National Baptist Convention; and

Whereas, Reverend White retired from Southern Bell/AT&T after eighteen years of service. She also worked for Home Gold Mortgage, for Richland School District 1 as a substitute teacher, and forTapp’s Department Store. Because of her passion for teaching adults with disabilities, Reverend White became a certified tutor with the Laubach Literary Society; and

Whereas, Reverend White’s motto comes from Romans 8:18: “for I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us”; and

Whereas, the Senate is grateful for the ministry of Reverend Ella White and her service to the community of Columbia and the State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor and recognize Reverend Ella Delores White for her years of outstanding leadership and service to the Mount Olive Baptist Church congregation and the Columbia community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Ella Delores White.
