Product Requirements: Purchasers are encouraged to use the following minimum contract language to ensure the products they buy meet the EPEAT standard:
All desktops, laptops, and computer monitors provided under this contract are required to have achieved Bronze registration or higher in the EPEAT system in [COUNTRY/COUNTRIES]. EPEAT is a procurement tool designed to help large volume purchasers evaluate, compare, and select electronic products based upon their environmental attributes as specified in the consensus-based IEEE Standard for the Environmental Assessment of Personal Computer Products (IEEE 1680.1).

Reporting Requirements: Purchase information may be used to calculate the environmental benefits of EPEAT purchasing and to provide required data for a variety of recognition programs. Requiring suppliers to provide regular EPEAT reporting – using language below – will simplify this task.
Suppliers are required to provide [quarterly/semiannual/annual] reporting on the number of EPEAT registered products purchased under this contract. For each piece of equipment sold, EPEAT Registration Status (i.e. Bronze, Silver, Gold or Unregistered) must be provided. The information must be reported in aggregate in a matrix providing the following data:

Definitions:
EPEAT, or the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, is an environmental rating system and product registry for identifying and purchasing sustainable IT products. EPEAT-registered products must meet environmental criteria detailed in corresponding standards. Products are classified as Bronze, Silver, or Goldbased on meeting criteria that addresses the life cycle of the products, including material extraction, hazardous substance reduction, end-of-life management, packaging, and corporate sustainability.

All mobile phone products provided under this contract are required to have achieved a Bronze rating or higher in the EPEAT system in [COUNTRY/COUNTRIES]. [Purchaser] will prefer products that have achieved an EPEAT Silver or EPEAT Gold rating.
EPEAT is a rating system designed to help large-volume purchasers evaluate, compare, and select electronic products based upon their environmental attributes. As appropriate, purchasers may want to consider including reference to EPEAT-registered products in any portion of the contract that gathers information on product sustainability.
Example Language may include:
[Purchaser] is committed to purchasing sustainable goods and services. Include a brief statement describing how the devices and services being offered reflect a commitment to sustainability. Examples may include use of the EPEAT ecolabel, or any other effort that mitigates environmental impact across the product life cycle (e.g. considering greenhouse gas reduction, waste reduction, toxicity reduction, etc.).

The contract language below is intended for areas where EPEAT standards are under development – it provides a useful model that can be customized to suit the particular needs and contracting approaches of your organization
[Purchaser] reserves the right to require or prefer, via upcoming technology refreshes to this contract or any contract extensions, products meeting standards qualified for implementation on the EPEAT Registry that may be developed for the environmental assessment of additional electronic products, once these standards are final and publicly available. The Contractor shall be responsible for ensuring equipment meets the latest EPEAT registration requirements before it is delivered.
