RE:After-Semester Workshop

DATE:April 12, 2017

This memo is to inform you that the After-Semester Workshop will be available for your students again this May. The workshop will be held weekdays starting Wednesday May 17th through FridayMay 26thfrom 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Attendance is mandatory at each session.

Please read the following carefully:

  • We will no longer be using the postcards to contact students. We will be contacting them by email.
  • Students must register by Tuesday May 16th to attend the workshop.
  • If possible, I would like the list including the student’s name, email addressand cellphone number in my mailbox or given to Linda no later than 3:00 p.m.Monday Math 15th. (I know that is not possible for all since there are some finals that day.)
  • A reminder will be sent (email or text) to all students on Tuesday May 16th.
  • The MAT 088 students will receive a grade of SB upon successful completion of the workshop and the MAT 114 students will receive a grade of C.

When selecting students who are eligible for the workshop, please remember that the program has been successful for those students who have worked hard all semester. Students should be selected only if they have an excellent chance of passing. Students who do not meet the following requirements may experience extreme anxiety and frustration by attending the workshop. Careful consideration needs to be taken when recommending students with learning disabilities. Classes are long. A great deal of information is discussed during each session. This may be an ineffective (and downright horrible) experience for some students. Please recommend students carefully.

In the MAT 114 workshop, a pre-test will be administered the first day. Students who do not show mastery on this pretest may not be allowed to attend the workshop. Copies of a MAT 114 Workshop Skills Sheet are available in Math Diagnostics. Carefully examine the criteria on the back of this page prior to recommending your students for the workshop.

Stop by my office (M210C), email me at , or call me at X2315 if you have any questions concerning the After-Semester Workshop. Thank you.
