PARENTS,
PTO is meeting tonight. They are always in need of a few good parents! Attend if you can.
Breakfast with a book is this Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. It is a great opportunity to sit down with your child, have a donut and juice, and help them pick out a book to keep. You should send in a reservation slip, but if you didn’t you are still welcome. So breakfast and the book are free!!
Reading Rap:
Our reading series is rich with literature. Our current theme is “Let’s Count!“. Each week we have a student friendly story, a teacher read-a-loud, and a booklet from our phonics set. This week’s stories are as follows:
Student Story:
Feast for Ten
by Cathryn Falwell
Teacher Read-a-Loud:
Bennies Pennies
by Pat Brisson
We will use classifying and categorizing items in stories to help us make decisions about them this week.
Breakthrough Connection
Our Breakthrough story for this week is "One, One is the Sun". It is about words that rhyme with the numbers one through six. A copy of this story will come home on Friday. Your child may have memorized the story. Encourage them to point to each word as they read. Please read it with your child!
Snack Track
We love healthy snacks like grahams, crackers, cereal, and fruit snacks. Will parents of the following children PLEASE send treats for 25 next Monday:
Jaylen, Jermaria, KaMillah, La’Myia, & Layla

Math Matters
We are completing our topic on comparing the numbers 0-5. We looked at equal amounts, greater than, and less than. When comparing pictured amounts WE ARE AWESOME. But some of us have trouble when asked to provide an mount that meet the ‘equal’, ‘greater than’, or ‘less than’ amounts. Example: This group has 4. Can you make a group that is less than 4?
Please notice that the last page of math class work is done independently. That means your child is doing the work by themselves – unless otherwise noted. Check this page regularly to see how your child is doing!

Story Talk
Each week we answer a question about the teacher read-a-loud story designed to encourage thinking about the story in different ways. This week’s story is
“Bennies Pennies”. Our question is: What would you buy with 5 shiny new pennies? Feel free to discuss this question with your child at home too!
Word Family
We are working with word families to enhance our reading and writing skills. This week we are focusing on short words that end with:

Can you make a list with your student?
Help At Home
There are always things you as a parent and first teacher can do to help your child succeed. This week I encourage you to ask your child to read quietly for 10 minutes before going to bed.
