Frequently Asked Questions about the CCNP Courses
Question:Should I take the CCNP courses in a specific order?
Answer: While there is no mandatory track, there is a suggested one. First complete BSCI and BCMSN (they may be taken in any order), then complete ISCW followed by ONT.
Question:Do I have to take the course before I take the exam?
Answer: No, Cisco has developed the course material to help you prepare for the exam. The courses are a great place to acquire a great deal of the knowledge and hands-on experience that would be very helpful in successfully completing the exams. However, you can obtain the knowledge from other ways such as self-study or life experience.
Question:I would like to ask someone a question about a course. Where can I go?
Answer: Check the “Ask the Expert” section of the CCNP Prep Center (see the Discussions Tab).
Question:Do I have to pass CCNA before starting CCNP?
Answer: No, the CCNA certification is not a requirement in order to take any of the CCNP courses, but you will need to understand the principals that are covered in CCNA. In addition, you will need to successfully pass the CCNA certification exam(s) as well as all of the CCNP exams, before you can obtain a CCNP certification.
Frequently Asked Questions about the CCNP Exams
Question:How do I know that I have successfully completed a simulation?
Answer: Each simulation has text that explains what task(s) need to be completed and how you will know that the task(s) have been successfully completed. The “success” statement will be something like:
“You will have successfully completed the tasks when the following routes are seen in the routing table.”
Or
“You will have successfully completed the tasks when you can ping from router WG1CE1 toWG1CE2.”
Question:If I don’t know the answer to a question, can I leave it and come back later to answer it?
Answer: No. When you move to the next question, the item is submitted to the test engine for grading. You cannot come back and change the answer.
Question:How do I know that I have answered all the questions in a simlet?
Answer: Since a simlet is made up of a series of multi-choice questions, the test engine will check each question when you attempt to leave the simlet. If you have not answered all of the questions, you will be warned and will be allowed to return to the simlet.
Question:What is the difference between a simlet and simulation?
Answer: Both simlets and a simulations require you to use a simulated IOS interface to complete a series of tasks. With a simlet, you use show commands to obtain information that is used to answer a series of multi-choice questions. With a simulation you use configuration and show commands to perform a series configuration and troubleshooting tasks.Keep in mind thatwith a simlet or a simulation, the full IOS is not available. Thus if you type a command that is not needed to successfully answer a simlet question or to complete the simulation, you will get a response similar to “That command is not supported”. If you receive this statement, this command is not needed to successfully compete the simulation or answer the simlet questions.
Question:Do I have to know the exact IOS command syntax to complete either a simlet or simulation?
Answer: Both a simlet and a simulation provide the same level of context help (i.e., ? TAB and command shorthand) that is available in anIOS device.
Question:I need to ask someone a question about an exam. Where can I go?

Question:Do I have to pass the CCNA exam before I can obtain a CCNP certification?
Answer: Yes, you will need to successfully pass the CCNA and all of the CCNP exams to obtain a CCNP certification
