Dear Colleagues,

I wish to bring to your attention a new opportunity for teaching in the United States during the 2009-2010 academic years through the Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program. We have recently been notified that a grant has been awarded to MountWachusettCommunity College in Gardner, Massachusetts, for a scholar from Ukraine to teach for one semester (Fall 2009 or Spring 2010) in the Department of Business Administration and Management. Please share this information with your colleagues.

The two-year public institution serves about 5800 students both full and part time. It offers a broad academic program of over 40 associate degrees and certificates all together. MountWachusett’s first international education efforts began in 1990. They are applying for the scholar-in-residence program to internationalize their campus life and the academic programs offered to their students. With a special interest in the business administration field of study the scholar will be asked to provide assistance to help build an international business course which will outline global awareness for both on and off campus students, faculty and local organizations.

Their mission supports international activities of this nature for it is in the core of their teaching philosophy to meet the educational, training and life long learning needs of a culturally diverse population. The proposal identifies two countries of their preference: CzechRepublic or Ukraine.

The following topics are expected to be covered/elaborated upon during the scholar’s visit in the United States:

Integration of international business modules/Business Administration courses.

Develop distance learning relationships with business professors.

Build faculty and student awareness of the global economy and its impact on the overall economic developments of the today’s countries.

Internationalize the entire business curriculum, by integrating global modules in all the existing courses.

A number of events are and continue to be planned for the scholar during the visit. A few of them include: International Club Visits, Alpha Beta Gamma, National Business Honor Society Presentation; Meet and Greet Hosted by student life; Gardener rotary clubs, local business and community leaders. Attendance at monthly meetings of the Massachusetts Council for International Education Programs; in November, attendance at New England Faculty Development Consortium Conference, etc.

Eligibility:

Candidates who have had extensive and prolonged academic activities in the United States duringthe past five years are disqualified from participation in this program. As is customary in the Fulbright Scholar Program, preference is given to individuals who have not previously been a Fulbright Grantee.

Applicants must demonstrate English language skills adequate for teaching U.S. students and for public lecturing. Semifinalists will be invited for an interview in early March 2009.

Application Process:

Candidates should submit the following materials to the Fulbright Program in Ukraine by 1 March 2009:

Letter of intent to apply for the Fulbright Scholar-In-Residence Program teaching opportunity at MountWachusettCommunity College in the Business Administration/Management department;

Description of teaching experience in the requested area of specialization;

Listing of former Fulbright experience (dates, program, location)

Listing of foreign travel during past five years (dates, sponsoring program/purpose, location);

Current CV (including relevant publications)

The staff of the Fulbright Program in Ukraine will review submitted materials of applicants and invite up to five applicants for an interview in March (date to be determined). Two finalists will be chosen. The final selection will be made by the U.S. host institution in collaboration with the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES)
