  1. Activity/Event Highlights

3.1Alma Mater Connections

  1. Athletics Meet (Final) – was held on 27 October 2003 and executive committee member, Rita Lo attended.
  1. Public Lecture – On 18 November 2003, alumna Dr Ho Fung Lin, Susan gave a presentation to the students and guests on the subject of Chinese culture and painting, titled「藝術的烙印」. It was well received and honoured by the presence of ex-principals and teachers. Twelve alumni also attended.
  1. Speech Day & Student Awards – on 12 December 2003, representatives of our Executive Committee attended. Three student progress awards (何東中學校友會學業進步獎) were contributed by AA to: 李恩詠, 李珮婷, 呂嘉欣for the substantial progress they had made in their academic achievement.
  1. Open Day – 19 February 2004. Due to tight working schedules, members of our executive committee were unable to attend.
  1. Career Talks – on 16 March 2004, alumni speakers from various business sectors: accountancy, advertising and public relations, film and TV production, financial planning, and sales support were invited to share their experience with around two hundred Form 4 students. Topics included: professional knowledge, qualifications required, market compensation package, work attitude, job opportunities and prospects, etc.
  1. Graduation Evening – the first school event of this nature was held on 2 July 2004. Alumna, Sarah McGrath was the guest-of-honor and shared her school life and work experience with graduates. A very enjoyable evening contributed by the creative and humourous presentations of graduates’ gratitude to the principal, teachers and school.
  1. 50th Anniversary Gala Night – 14 July 2004 - This school event was originally scheduled in 2003, but was postponed due to the attack of SARS epidemic. We took part in the performance program. Two of our executive committee members, Sharon Ho and Lucia Yuen gave an amusing talk show on ‘past and present school extra-curricula activities’.
  1. Mind-mapping – alumna’s skill-sharing with 22 students of alma mater were carried out on 29 December 2003 & 24 September 2004. The main objectives were to improve memory skills and enhance creative thinking.
  2. Swimming gala – on 20 September 2004, three representatives of our executive committee attended.
  1. Support – Our heartfelt appreciation to be extended to Mrs Ada Wong and Mrs Rebecca Li, the two teachers who have helped us significantly throughout the year. They provided us with assistance and advice relative to our activities, especially in the coordination and liaison with our alma mater.

3.2Social Gathering - A BBQ party was held on 25 October 2003 with eighty-two participants, at alma mater’s school compound. It was an enjoyable and relaxing evening for alumni and their families.

3.3 Community Service

We wish to involve students of alma mater in our community services programs. It is our intention to create a ‘sisterhood’ in this area, in order to enhance and sustain a good sense of responsibility towards our society.

Care for The Elderly – The Helping Hand Siu Sai Wan Elderly Home (伸手助人協會小西灣老人之家) is the organization that we had supported during the year.

-6 healthy cooking demonstrations were given to the elderly residents from 8 May – 24 July 2004. Form 4 students from our alma mater as well as alumni volunteers assisted in the nutritional knowledge sharing and cooking classes.

-On 24 September 2004, AA and school student volunteers assisted in their mid-autumn cum birthday celebration dinner party. Alumni donated gifts and helped in games organization and other programs activities, while students gave the elderly and their families an enjoyable evening via pop-song singing, hip-hop dancing and harmonica performances.

Acknowledgements

  1. Donations were received from alumni to support our activities. Our sincere gratitude to Deborah Lau, Rita Lo, Kitty Woo and Cecilia Young for their generosity.
  2. Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Hon Auditor, Gloria Yau for auditing our final accounts on an honourary basis.
  3. I would also like to gratefully acknowledge our executive committee members. It is an efficient and cooperative team. Under tight work schedules, members could still make up the time to come to our meetings. Though sometimes notices for projects were short, our members could still accomplish their tasks on time.

Conclusion

The above activity/event highlights demonstrated that many of our functions were carried out in collaboration with the human resource of our alma mater. Thus, we would like to give our applause to Principal, Miss Fung Lin Foon as well as to her teaching and office staff. Indeed, their assistance and support have greatly contributed to the success and efficiency in the implementation of our activities throughout the year.
