THE POWER OF THE WORD OF GOD
“The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.” (John 6:63)
Words of Life
The word of God is creative and generates life. There is nothing in this world that can be compared to it. It seems to me that many children of God have not yet realized the awesome and tremendous power of the word of God. We do not deny the influence that human speech may have. A powerful political leader can stir the emotions of a whole nation and move them into action. This can sometimes be dangerous. We know that the speech centre in the brain controls all the nervous system. Our words are important because they can have direct impact on our physical and mental health. In Proverbs 18: 21 Solomon says that “the tongue has the power of life and death.” However human words, though influential, CANNOT give life because they do not have life. Only the word of God can generate life, they are living words. When God speaks, the divine life is communicated by the Holy-Spirit. Human words are dead words. God’s word is life.
The Divine Dimension
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread to the eater, so is my word that goes out of my mouth: It will not return unto me empty, but will accomplishwhat I desire and serve the purpose for which I sent it”. (Isaiah 55:8-11)
We, Human beings, learn and communicate by our senses. We are limited by our logical and analytical thinking. Even though man’s intelligence has invented and produced wonderful and useful engines, machines and all sorts of apparatus, human mind cannot go beyond the space/time dimension. There are things that the human mind cannot even conceive, things pertaining to the divine dimension. But the word of God can create faith in our heart and take us beyond the space/time dimension, beyond all that our senses can perceive and beyond our human logical thinking. Faith in the word of God will lift you up and you’ll move into a higher dimension, the divine dimension where miracles happen. Read carefully the following verses from 1 Corinthians 2:9-13:
However as it is written:
“No eye has seen,
Noearhas heard,
No mind has conceived
What God has prepared for those who love him?”
But God has revealed it to us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thought of a man, except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of Godexcept the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God; that we may understand what God has freelygiven us. This is what we speak not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words
Faith goes against human senses and human logical thinking. I have often gone against all the evidences that my senses were telling me. I have sometimes done violence to my logical and analytical thinking to be able to stand firmly on God’s word. And I have seen marvelous miracles in my family and ministry. God’s ways and thoughts are higher than our ways and thoughts as the heavens are higher that the earth. Do you want to continue living in the lower dimension or do you want to be lifted into the higher dimension and like a mighty eagle soar higher and higher. Abraham had that kind of faith. His powerful faith is described in Romans 4:18-21: “Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, so shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”
I sincerely think that many children of God have not yet realized the tremendous power of the word of God. We should cling to the word. Read it every day. Study and memorize it. God’s words are miracle-words. The power and usefulness of your ministry will depend on how much you value the word of God. How often you read it and meditate on it. It’s a question of life or death.
The Word of God creates
By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. Hebrew 11: 3.
By the Word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. Psalm 33: 6.
And God said,“Let there be light,” and there was light. Genesis 1:3
God’s Word heals
He sent forth His word and healed them; He rescued them from the grave. Psalm 107: 20.
The Roman centurion knew that and said to Jesus:” Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed” Matthew 8:8
Matthew 8: 16 tells us that Jesus “drove out the demon spirits with a word and healed all the sick”
The Word of God sanctifies
You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. John 15:3
In his prayer for his disciples in John 17:17 Jesus said: “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”
I urge you in the name of our Lord Jesus to read and study the word diligently.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. Colossians 3: 16
