Recruitment of Research Interns– London office

We are seeking Research Interns to begin work in late 2011 and at various points during 2012

  • at least one intern fluent in Spanish (with good English)
  • at least one intern fluent in French (with good English)
  • at least one other intern

Minimum internship period: at least 4 months full-time or 8 months half-time.

Reimbursement of local travel costs, and lunch up to £5; we are unable to pay any stipend or salary.

Location: our office in central London(intern may also work from home at times if he/she wishes).

We are seeking hard-working internsto join our team. Your tasks will include:

1. Online research input: Finding relevant news and reports online; composing abstracts; completing an input form to add each item to our site.

2. Updating broken & outdated links on our site.

3. Researching companies and creating new company sections on our site.

4. Raising awareness about the Resource Centre by contacting relevant organizations.

5. Assisting with projects, e.g. “Business, Conflict & Peace Project”, “Business & Children Project”,

“Business & Freedom of Association”.

6. Participating in staff meetings, including biweekly Skype discussions with all the international staff.

You will be trained, supervised and supported by our interns manager.

Please note that this internship is not academically oriented, and does not involve extensive analysis or writing. Rather, it is a practical internship focused on tracking day-to-day news about company conduct affecting people and communities, and bringing this to global attention via our website, with the aim of promoting respect for human rights.

You should have a strong interest in international human rights issues. You will need the ability to concisely summarise and demystify large amounts of complex information. You should be self-motivated, and able to work independently while functioning well as a member of a small team. You must be willing to do a large amount of routine data input efficiently & accurately. You will also need research skills. Attention to detail and accurate spelling are essential. Previous experience working with websites is not necessary.

Languages: You must have a good working knowledge of English. For those applying for the internships not requiring fluent Spanish or French, language skills beyond strong English are not essential; however, strong skills in other languages (particularly Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Portuguese) would be very welcome, in which case some of your work will include research & input in those languages.
