Name that Citizen

Subject Area(s) and TEKS: Social Studies 3.1, Language Arts

Lesson Objective:

Students will explore the concept of citizenship and apply that concept to the leaders in their local and school community that have contributed to making their local and school community what it is today.

Material/Resources Needed: PowerPoint Lesson Guide, Inspiration or http://bubbl.us/ (Online Brainstorming tool), Photostory, Publisher, Digital Camera, Miss Rumphius Books

Lesson Procedure: In partners students will complete the quest together. They will brainstorm the Inspiration or bubbl.us document describing the characteristics of a good citizen within a community. As partners Miss Rumphius will be read and the book report in the folder will be completed. They will analyze how Miss Rumphius contributed to the welfare of her community.

Within the school community or local community the partners will NAME A CITIZEN that has built or is now contributing to that community. Students will interview their citizen. Using rubric students will

They will gather facts that prove the leadership and citizenship of that citizen concerning the community. Students will then write a storyboard that reflects the facts in the interview. Students will take digital images of that citizen that contribute to each fact on their interview.

Choice: Students can use Publisher and make a poster to exhibit their citizen using the digital pictures or Students can make a digital story about their citizen using their digital images and storyboard.

Rubric to assess the final product.
