The Pride of Workmanship Awards night, organised by Connie Galletta, was voted a great success by all in attendance. I am sure we would all agree that Connie did a magnificent job. Congratulations Connie. Not forgetting Brian Johnson and Grahame True’s input. The awardees were of a very high standard, well deserving of their awards. John Leftwich was at his sparkling best as MC, so well done all around. The fact that our District Governor, Bill Little, Federal MP John Murphy, State MP Virginia Judge, our Mayor Bill Carney as well as other VIP’s including Nancy Sherry, were in attendance is surely indicative of the high regard that Strathfield Rotary Club is held in. Either that or Connie can be quite persuasive! Guest Speaker, Sgt Robert Jones, was able to give us a first hand account of the devastation caused by the Tsunami and Australia’s response to the needs of the survivors. His presentation really brought home the enormity of the disaster and the difficulties encountered – and overcome – in setting up a hospital.
Changing the subject a little – don’t forget that this is the last week for booking for the Conference at a discount price. Ted Ingall awaits your cheque! Rotary Christmas Cards are available from Secretary Roger and Eve has a few Rotary Cakes and Puddings for sale. The children’s Christmas Party is on December 14th at the Golf Club. Santa will be in attendance. If you would like Santa to give your child a present please bring it to the Club clearly labeled with a name. This will be a good night for young and old. We promise.
BBQ is in action for the Festival of Cultures, Henley Road opposite Flemington Station on 4th December. Shirley as always is organising out part in the show.
Till next week,
Enjoy Rotary,
President George.

Do Not Talk To My Parrot!!!
From Grahame True
Wanda's dishwasher quit working so she called a repairman. Since she had to work the next day, she told the repairman, "I'll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I'll mail you a check. Oh, by the way don't worry about my bulldog. He won't bother you. But, whatever you do, do NOT, under ANY circumstances, talk to my parrot! I REPEAT, DO NOT TALK TO MY PARROT!!!"
When the repairman arrived at Wanda's apartment the following day, he discovered the biggest, meanest looking bulldog he has ever seen. But, just as she had said, the dog just lay there on the carpet watching the repairman go about his work. The parrot, however, drove him nuts the whole time with his incessant yelling, cursing and name calling. Finally the repairman couldn't contain himself any longer and yelled, "Shut up, you stupid, ugly bird!" To which the parrot replied, "Get him, Spike!
