FOR PROPOSAL

A. Proposal: Best Practices Resolution

The State School Act 22f appropriates $75,000,000 to provide $50 per pupil allocation for the 2014-15 school year. Mr. Wright explained that Kelloggsville is eligible for approximately $106,750 (2,235 x $50) if seven (7) out of the nine (9) items are attained. He shared that there are two areas that KPS would not be able to meet; implement a comprehensive guidance and counseling program, and offer K-8 students 1 credit worth of non-English learning experience. This proposal will be placed on the 10/27/14 agenda as a consent item.

FOR INFORMATION

A. Report: First Student Count - - Enrollment

The first student count day was held on 10/01/14. Mr. Wright highlighted that the projection for the 2014-15 school year was 2,100 students while the actual enrollment on count day was 2,135 - - an increase of 35 students over projection. Even though numbers were slightly higher than anticipated, the trend still indicates a decrease overall from the previous years, especially at the elementary level. Numbers at the MS and especially at the HS were higher than anticipated which helped to increase this year’s revenue.

B. Report: 6th Grade Camp

Mr. Alcorn reported on the successful camping experience 6th grade students had at Camp Manitou-Lin October 6-8. 104 students had the opportunity to experience a variety of camping activities including canoeing, archery, and zip line. Mr. Alcorn shared a letter which expressed appreciation to the Board for their financial support in helping to fund this experience for our students.

C. Report: HS/MS Parent-Teacher Conferences

The secondary fall parent-teacher conferences will be held on October 14 & 22 from 4:30 – 8:00 PM. Mr. Gunn shared that the formats will be the same as last year with the exception of the elementary levels holding their conferences in mid-November to allow more time for assessment data. It is hopeful that this will help accommodate schedule conflicts for parents who have students at all levels. A district-wide callout will be sent to remind parents of the date and times.

D. Report: Bond Committee Meeting

The second bond committee meeting for 2014-15 will be held on 10/15/14 @ 5:30 PM - - Board of Education Center. Mr. Wright encouraged all to attend as we continue working in subcommittees to carry out the many tasks leading up to the February election.

OTHER MATTERS

Mr. Gunn shared the details associated with this Friday’s Homecoming events. The parade will begin at 6:00 PM from West Elementary with the football game to follow. This is an important game as the Rockets need one more win to qualify for the playoffs. HS students will have a week full of activities to participate in culminating in a dance on Saturday evening. All are invited to attend.
