HDFS Program Meeting

Program Goals for 2017-2018
Recruitment/Promoting HDFS:
- In spring 2018 (Feb) hold an advising luncheon to promote the HDFS minor and new courses—invite faculty/advisors from across campus.
- Expand the HDFS Advisory Board
- Nurture relationships with community colleagues—revisit faculty assignments; update articulation agreements; serve on advisory boards at community colleges, potentially hold luncheon
- Reach out to admitted students who have not enrolled—ambassadors will call and student worker email the 1st Monday of every month; develop strategies for reaching out to parents of the admitted students.
Discussion Items:
- Recruitment:
- Photos from the practicum course student powerpoint presentations were “pulled” by Paige and Dr. Mize, and faculty discussed the possibility of using these photos for marketing and recruitment
- Some issues to keep in mind: photo release waivers needed from anyone depicted; quality of the photos need to be considered
- Dr. Jumper suggested that we go ahead and use photos shared by the Megan W. in order to proceed with recruitment efforts
- Graduate Issues:
- Rolling deadline for admission/registration
- HDFS summer graduate course (HMS 551) will be offered in Summer 2by Dr. Farago
- HDFS graduate course offerings: HMS 586 Fall; HMS 552 Spring; HMS 551 Summer 2
- Ms. Cortines will teach HMS 586; Dr. Jumper will teach HMS 552
- Graduate bulletin is being reviewed by faculty and staff today through Friday – if there are issues, let Dr.Jumper and Dr. Perrit know
- Graduate degree plans don’t have to include the semester when a course is taken
- Summer Schedule:
- After much discussion, it was determined that HMS 420 will currently not be offered in the summer
- Fall Teaching Schedules:
- In order to determine fall schedules,Dr. Mize reported that we need more data (webfocus; analytics)
- Practicum
- Required: 200 hrsof practicum at the site – for 3 hrs credit
- “We are training professionals, not parents”
- Practicum internsare allowed to serve as interns at their current site of employment as long as they are completing tasks that are not normally part of their job duties
- JCFR
- Meeting is tomorrow, Jan 25th at 6pm
- Faculty will provide pizza and drinks
- Dr. Newquist mentioned fundraising efforts for TxCFR
- Jaycie Case emailed Dr. Farago as JCFR students would like to do a project with Head Start
- GETCAP Advisory meeting
- Feb 28th at noon atGETCAP Head Start
- Dr. Farago will touch base with Ms. Shante about spring events that our students can volunteer at
- Dr. Farago will reach out to Mr. Beard regarding advertising the SFA online HDFS program in Tyler
