BATTLE AGAINST CANCER

THE JESSICA RESSEL STORY

Jessica Ressel was a beautiful, blue-eyed 11-

year-old girl in March, 1996, when her nagging

nagging double vision problems were diagnosed

as brain stem glioma, the second most common

cause of death among children in America. The

doctor explained that a pea-sized tumor was

invading her head and causing the problem. He

gave Jessi a life expectancy of 8 to 18 months.

Treatment Options

The doctors told Jessica’s family that the

standard course of treatment was radiation and chemotherapy. Not only would Jessi be horribly ill from the side effects of these conventional treatments, they might only extend her life and she would die in a matter of months, with or without treatment.

Jessica’s mother, Robin, decided that she would not accept death as an option. She prayed for strength every day as she spent endless hours educating herself on brain tumors, nutrition and alternate cancer therapies. She made hundreds of phone calls, searched the internet and libraries and read everything she could get her hands on concerning brain cancer and therapy. Finally, one sunny April afternoon, she received a red booklet in the mail from Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski. It contained information about the Burzynski Clinic in Houston and a treatment he had developed, a safe, non-toxic cancer therapy that has almost no side-effects. At that time, it had been used for over 18 years with some remarkable success in treating Jessi’s type of cancer.

Rapid Remission

After an initial consultation, Jessica began treatment at the Burzynski Clinic. Within 6 weeks from the start of her therapy, the double vision disappeared. She continued to go to school, ride her bike and play basketball with her brother. Jessi’s illness no longer threatened her life. In March, 1998, she was able to stop using the intravenous form of therapy and began taking the oral form of the medication, in a daily maintenance dosage. She stopped taking the medication completely in February, 1999. Jessi is now a healthy 17-year old and remains in remission.
