Job Description
Place or base of work:Based at the Thrive’s National headquarters at Beech Hill, near Reading, the role may involve travel throughout the UK to support delivery of Thrive’s Services
Reports to:Chief Executive Officer
Direct reports: Business Development Manager and Training, Education & Consultancy Manager
Salary: up to £45,000 per annum
Hours:35 hours per week
Contract:Permanent
Main purpose
Oversight and development of Thrive’s income generating and promotional activities, ensuring that these support Thrive’s charitable and strategic aims, are delivered to the highest standards and in accordance with delivery and outcome criteria established with partners, stakeholders and regulators.
Requirements of the Post
The Head of Innovation & Marketing will be a key member of the Senior Management Team, providing the vital link between strategic and operational activities, developing and managing the strategies, policies, procedures and initiatives required to secure effective delivery, monitoring and evaluation of Thrive’s income generating and promotional activities:
- Develop and manage a Marketing and Communications Strategy that ensures our work is known and celebrated, enhancing our profile locally and nationally
- Identify needs and priorities for the Charity’s communications, providing input to the strategic planning by advising the CEO and Trustees on marketing and digital marketing techniques and good practice
- Lead a project to revitalise the Thrive website(s) ensuring strong messaging and compelling content
- Develop and manage an Income Generation Strategy that contributes to the strategic direction of Thrive and that supports the dual aims of increasing the number of people who benefit from our services whist improving the financial position of the charity
- Oversee and monitor fundraising practices in accordance with guidance and standards set by the Fundraising Regulator
- Manage effective systems for monitoring, evaluation and reporting of outcomes from our ‘paid-for’ services.
- Monitor the external environment to identify new opportunities and innovations in marketing and income generation, including partnership opportunities, which will help to achieve the Charity’s objectives
- Develop proposals for new initiatives to generate income and/or increase awareness, including undertaking market research, identification of potential partners and funders, and preparing the appropriate supporting business case
- Develop, manage and monitor standards and practices covering:
- Marketing (online and offline) and brand management
- Product/service development
- Project management
- Relationship management
- Provide leadership to lined managed employees.
- Plan and manage staff resources to ensure appropriate staffing and long-term retention of talent; monitoring and managing staff performance and conducting annual performance reviews; coaching and mentoring staff as appropriate to improve performance.
- Ensure that income and expenditure across the Business Development and Training, Education & Consultancy Teams are monitored and that timely action taken to address any issues arising
- Oversee the preparation and implementation of annual objectives, delivery targets and budgets for Business Development and Training, Education & Consultancy in accordance with the Income Generation Strategy.

Skills and Knowledge /- Qualification or equivalent experience in marketing techniques and digital marketing
- Project management

- Interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of people
- Fundraising practices
- Knowledge of Social and Horticultural Therapy or other therapeutic interventions designed to meet the needs of disabled/disadvantaged adults and/or children
- Management and motivation of volunteers
Experience /
- Experience of developing and managing marketing, digital marketing and communications strategies and procedures, preferably in a not for profit organisation
- Experience of managing multiple and complex projects with differing deadlines and reporting requirements
- Successful track record of developing and implementing new services/products and innovations
- Proven track record of business planning, budget holding and cost management, with a commitment to strong budget management and swift action to address slippage if required.
- Experience of setting, working to, measuring and evaluating key operational and strategic objectives and associated KPIs
- Working at a senior level in an organisation and experience of reporting to/advising Board of Trustees/Directors
- Voluntary sector experience at a management level or as a charity trustee or volunteer
- Working for an organisation serving the needs of vulnerable adults and/or children
- Working for an organisation servicing the needs of professional practitioners in Healthcare, Social-care or Education
