Job Description
Visitor Interaction
- To ensure that all visitors receive a warm welcome to Arundells and to assist in makingtheir visit as informative, enjoyable and interesting as possible.
- To help ensure that questions and requests for information are addressed and responded toin a timely way.
Volunteers
- To plan and coordinate the daily volunteer room steward rotas.
- To properly brief and manage the duty stewards each day.
- Ensure that all rooms are properly stewarded.
- To plan and ensure that refreshment breaks are initiated, taken and covered
- Provide leadership, support and encouragementto volunteer room stewards as necessary.
- To maintain the data base of volunteer helpers and individual personnel records.
- To work closely with and assist the Manager andDeputy Manager in the recruitment and ongoing training of volunteers.
Guided Tours
- To maintain a close liaison with the tour guides and to help toreceive, welcome and administercoach party and larger tour group visits.
Security
- To be familiar with all security protocols and the operation of the security intruder and fire alarm systems.
- To ensure that the property is ready to receive visitors.
- To ensure that the property (and garden) are clear of visitors at the end of the day and that the house and outbuildings are secure.
Presentation
- Ensure that all show rooms, the visitor reception and the exhibition room have been cleaned, are properly presented and ready for access by visitors.
- Check that lavatories are clean and correctly equipped.
- Check that information for visitors is available in each room and correctly displayed.
- To assist with routine cleaning duties as requested.
Marketing
- To assist with the promotion and marketing of Arundells to a wide audience including the marketing of events and exhibitions.
Retail sales
- To oversee the display, promotion and sale of retail goods within the Visitor Reception.
- To monitor sales for each product within given periods and record this information.
- To work closely with the Manager and Deputy Manager in formulating ideas for new retail goods.
Health and Safety
- To be familiar with the Foundation’s Health, Safety and Welfare Policy and all Risk Assessments prepared by the House Manager.
- To contribute to the review of Risk Assessments as requestedby the Manager.
- To be fully conversant with the emergency / fire response and evacuation procedures and to act as a duty fire marshal.
- To respond to, address and record accidents and illnesses that occur as agreed with the Manager and Deputy Manager.
Exhibitions / visitor interpretation and the care and conservation of the Collection
- To assist with the preparation and management of exhibitions and with the planning and preparation of new visitor information material as required by the Manager or Deputy Manager.
- To assist with practical tasks to assist with the preservation and conservation of the house and Collection as required by the Manager and Deputy Manager.
Events
- To assist with the practical administration and management of events that may take place and as directed by the Manager.
Knowledge
- To develop a good general understanding and knowledge of the history of Arundells and its Collection, the life of Sir Edward Heath and the Charitable Foundation.
Visitor recording and surveys
- As instructed by the Manager, to compile and maintain a daily record of visitor numbers, admission takings and ancillary information.
- To arrange and manage surveys of visitors and to record the information obtained.
Additional Duties
- To undertake additional tasks as may reasonably be requested by the Manager or Deputy Manager.
