Philosophy:

The material and pace are designed to provide a challenge for the college bound high school student. The stronger a student becomes in algebra, the more comfortable they will be in engaging all of life’s problems, mathematical and otherwise. Students do not learn math from sitting in class. The learning only occurs when students attempt the problems. In this spirit students will spend a lot of time working both independently and in groups.

Test vs. Quiz

Quizzes in this class will serve as an intermediate check of your progress through a unit. Most quizzes will be announced, but some will be a surprise . Surprise Quizzes will be open note. Tests are closed notes/book. Some parts will be with a calculator, some will not allow the use of a calculator. No help of any kind will be provided during an assessment. __

Make up Policy

When absent, check the make up folder. Any assignments in that folder will be due in two days, including tests and quizzes. Assignments given before your absence will be due the day after your return. All make up work is entirely the responsibility of the student. They are also responsible for any notes they may have missed. As per FCPS policy, work missed for an illegal absence will not receive credit, which includes tests and quizzes. Late work will receive ½ credit and will only be accepted until the we have completed the unit test. This means that at the end of the term, students cannot make up missed work for credit.
