Call for Genetics Training Grant Applications
We invite applications for a predoctoral traineeship positionon the Genetics Training Grant to begin September 2016. All interested graduate students who have completed their qualifying exams by the application date are urged to apply. We particularly encourage applications from under represented minority students.Applications should be submitted to:

Applications should include the following items:
1.Cover sheet, which can be downloaded from (see “Applications and Policies”, or contact Patty Lisieski(1-2612; ) to get the cover sheet form;
2.Your curriculum vitae with description of education and training;
3.A short (2-4 pages) carefully thought out summary of your thesis research project. Summarize the problem (include some strategic literature references), what you have accomplished so far, and your research goals for your tenure as a graduate student. There is a limit of four pages, not including references or figures. Font must be 11 pt Arial, with 1 inch margins.The proposal must be written entirely by the student applicant.
4.Copies of your academic transcripts, both undergraduate and graduate;
5.Copy of the report of your GRE scores;
6.Supporting letters from your major professor and two other professors who are familiar with your research. Mentor's letter should comment on the independence with which the applicant composed the proposal.

Training grant policies you should be aware of are:
(a)The primary criteria for selection will be:
1) scientific excellence and 2) relevance of theproposed research to the field of Genetics.
(b)Support is provided for a maximum of three years and not beyond the sixth year as a graduate student.
(c)NIH requires that trainees be U.S. citizens, U.S. noncitizen national or a permanent resident of the U.S.
(d)Graduate students must be residents of the State of Utah and eligible for in-state tuition.
(e)All trainees must take Scientific Integrity and Ethics of Science Research(MBIOL 7570)
(f)All trainees must take the Core Genetics graduate course (MBIOL 6420).
(g)All trainees must take a designated advanced genetics course (eg. HGEN 6092).
(h) All trainees must enroll in the Trainee Lunch/RIP series, Genetics Conferences (HGEN 7850).
(i) Trainees will participate in the Genetics Interest Group Seminar Series and the Annual Retreat.
(j) Efforts will be made to support a maximum of one trainee per lab.
