Saltaire Decorative and Fine Arts Society

We hope that you find our Society is an amicable gathering of likeminded friends enjoying a variety of Arts in all sorts of guises.

This society has approximately 200 members and we meet on the first Wednesday of the month (except January and August) at Victoria Hall, Saltaire.

The lectures are approximately one hour long and start at 1400 hours. We ask that you be in your seats by 1355.

There is tea/coffee and biscuits available after the lecture when you can get the chance to meet people and renew friendships.

We also have trips out and a programme of Special Days of Interest.

We are involved in Church Recording at S. Chad’s Church, Toller lane, Bradford and also in some conservation work.

The National Association of Decorative and

Fine Arts Societies

When an individual joins the Saltaire Decorative and Fine Arts Society (SDFAS) he or she automatically becomes a member of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Society (NADFAS) which is based in London. NADFAS is a registered charity consisting of over 370 member societies, with a worldwide membership of more than 92,000.

NADFAS’ main objectives are the aesthetic education and cultivation of the appreciation of decorative and fine artsand to give help topreserve our nationalartistic heritagefor the benefit of the public.

Patricia Fay, the founder of NADFAS, said “above all, NADFAS must be fun”

Each Society arranges a series of illustrated lectures on a wide range of topics, usually given by lecturers from the NADFAS register. These are people of proven academic knowledge of their subject and lecturing ability.

To assist in the study of a subject in a greater depth Study Days are organised at an individual society, area or at national levels.

Societies are involved in local projects. Volunteer groups help with conservation work of books, textiles and works of art. Church recording groups have catalogued the furnishings and fabrics of over 1,800 churches. The work is openly appreciated by the church authorities, the police and insurance companies.

The joy of learning and the knowledge that the volunteer activities are repaying the Arts for some of the enjoyment they have experienced, creates a warm bond whenever NADFAS members meet.
