THE KENNEL CLUB OLYMPIA LARGE DOG NOVICE AGILITY STAKES
Supported by Skinner’s
Regulations:
This competition will be classified as combined Grades 3, 4 and 5 and judged under the Kennel Club Regulations for standard classes.
Those dogs eligible to compete in Novice Large Dog Agility competitions are those measuring over 430 mm (1 foot 5 inches) at the withers.
Dogs should be eligible to enter a Grade 3, 4 or 5 class at the time of qualifying for the Quarter-Final. Any subsequent wins gained by the dog will not alter its eligibility to compete in the Quarter-Final, Semi-Final or Final.
Competitors may enter more than one dog in a heat. Competitors may qualify more than one dog for the Quarter-Final and also the Semi-Final at Olympia, handlers may only qualify a maximum of 2 dogs for the Olympia Grand Finals (highest placed in the Semi Final).
Once a dog has qualified for the Quarter-Final, further heats may be entered for competition although any placings in these further heats will not affect the dog’s eligibility for the Quarter-Final/Semi-Final.
If the entry for the heat exceeds 360 the class must be split into two equal parts. If the entry exceeds 540 the class must be split into three equal parts. No part, if split, may be less than 150 dogs. Rosettes and awards remain unchanged if the heat is split and will be given for each part.
The first five previously unqualified placed dogs from each heat will go forward to the Quarter-Finals at the Kennel Club International Agility Festival held annually in August, if the heat is split then three dogs will be taken from each part. The first twenty dogs from this Quarter-Final will qualify for the Semi-Final at the London Olympia Christmas International Horse Show.
The 20dogs who qualify for Olympia will compete in a Semi-Final at Olympia. The top ten highest placed dogs in the Semi-Final will qualify for the evening Grand Final at Olympia (subject to the above).
The handler that qualifies a dog for the Quarter-Final / Semi-Final / Final will be the handler that competes, handler substitutions are not allowed.
Dogs cannot compete in more than onecompetition at Olympia. Ifa dog qualifies for more than one Quarter-Final or Semi-Final at the Kennel Club International Agility Festivalthe first successful qualification will take precedence and the dog will be withdrawn from any further Quarter / Semi-Finals and replaced by a reserve.
All winners of the Olympia Grand Finals will be invited to compete in the following year’s Semi-Finals without qualifying through the usual procedure via heats. For the Novice winner this will be dependant on the dog still being eligible for grades 3 – 5 on the date of entries closing for the Kennel Club International Agility Festival
The Agility Club Starters Challenge Rules
The classes should be billed appropriately as either “The Agility Club Large Starters Challenge”, “The Agility Club Medium Starters Challenge” or “The Agility Club Small Starters Challenge” and scheduled accordingly as a Large, Medium or Small combined Grade 1-2 Agility class.
The competition will be run under the relevant Kennel Club Regulations in force at the time. All handlers will be deemed to have agreed to abide by these rules and regulations.
Each Heat is open to all Grade 1-2 dogs of the correct size for each heat, but only those handled by an Agility Club member at the time of competing may qualify for the Final.
The competition will normally consist of between ten to fifteen Heats. The two highest placed Agility Club members in each Heat will go through to the Final, providing they are placed within the top 10% of the class. In the instance where 10% falls to a decimal place, then it should be rounded up to include the next placing. Both handler and dog may only qualify once for each height Final
The show secretary must be informed if a handler or dog that has already qualified for the same height Final is placed in a subsequent Heat.
Trophies and Rosettes = Large - Rosettes to 10th and Trophies to 3rd, Small & Medium - Rosettes to 5th and Trophy for 1st place.
Welfare of dogs
Your dog is vulnerable and AT RISK if left in a vehicle in high temperatures and even on days considered as slightly warm. Please take care of your dog. If your dog is found to be at risk forcible entry to your vehicle may be necessary without liability for any damage caused.
A competitor whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not knowingly put their dogs health and welfare eat risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. A breach of the Regulation may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under the Kennel Club Rules and Regulations.
Owners are responsible for clearing up after their dogs
ELIGIBILITY & DEFINITION OF CLASSES
In the following definitions of classes First Prizes or other prize wins are those gained in standard classes at any Kennel Club
Licensed Championship Agility, Premier Agility, Open Agility Shows or Limited Agility Shows,(ie special classes and invitational events excepted). Only a first place with a clear round completed within the course time set by the judge will count towards grade progression. Agility classes to include contact obstacles and jumping classes where there are not contact obstacles. With this proviso classes are defined as follows:-
Class StructureA Class may either be held as a Graded Class or a Combined Class. A Graded Class may be scheduled for one or more consecutive Grades with separate results and awards issued for each grade. A Combined Class may be scheduled for more than one consecutive grade with one overall set of results.
Progression from each Grade will require one Agility win or three Jumping wins in standard classes at that grade, except that progression from Grade 5 will require 3 wins at Grade 5 one of which must be an agility class. Progression from Grade 6 will require 4 wins at Grade 6, two of which must be agility classes. Results from Combined Classes will only count towards progression from the dog’s current grade.
Points Progression At the handler’s discretion a dog may progress up to Grade 4 by winning 100 points at each grade, using the Agility Warrant point’s scheme, Regulation K3.c refers, except that there is no requirement for a minimum number of agility points. If this method of progression is selected, the handler must ensure the Show
Secretary signs the dog’s Agility Record Book at the first show entered at the higher grade. There is no time limit on this progression, however, once a dog has progressed, it cannot return to a previous grade. Progression on points must be done prior to the closing date of entries. It is not possible to change grade on points once the entries have closed.
STANDARD CLASSES
Only first prizes and points gained in standard classes at Kennel Club licensed Agility Shows may be used for progression through the classes. (A dog is only eligible for one grade). In defining the eligibility of the owner or handler for Grade 1, the three jumping wins and point’s progression referred to in the definition apply only to one dog and not an accumulation of dogs.
