Programme Officer
Women’s Rights
We are seeking an exceptional individual to work on our Women’s Rights grant-making programme.
The successful candidate will have at least five years’ experience in human rights, preferably in the field of women’s rights, as well as excellent analytical and communication skills. Experience of working with organisations based overseas would be an advantage.
The Women’s Rights Programme Officer works closely with the Women’s Rights Programme Director, deputising as necessary. The post further reports through the Administrative Director, and in matters of grant making and strategy directly, to the Chair of the Board.
You will be responsible for researching potential applicants, working with those invited to apply, reviewing applications and writing and presenting recommendations to Trustees. The role also includes managing the relationship with grantees, conducting research, and keeping informed of developments in the programme area.
Programme staff are assisted by a small administrative team.
You must be well organised, analytical and with good attention to detail. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
The salary for this post will be in the range of £30-40,000 per annum depending on experience, plus pension contributions.

Job Description: Women’s Rights Programme Officer
The Women’s Rights portfolio comprises approximately 40 grantees.
Relationships and reporting lines
The Women’s Rights Programme Officer works closely with the Women’s Rights Programme Director and further reports through the Administrative Director, and in matters of grant making and strategy directly, to the Chair of the Board. Key relationships include interaction with all Trustees as well as collaboration with the Trust’s other programme officers and administrative staff.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Deputise for the Women’s Rights Programme Director as necessary.
- Identify potential grant applicants by researching organisations in the field, networking and attending events related to minority rights;
- Research organisations proposed by trustees as potential grant applicants;
- Put forward potential grant applicants to Trustees for review and selection;
- Review submitted applications, visit or meet applicant organisations where appropriate, prepare analytical reports and develop grant-making recommendations to the Board of Trustees;
- Review reports submitted by grantees, evaluate and report on the impact of grants and sign off on grants;
- Investigate and develop new directions for sub-programmes within the portfolio;
- Maintain relationships and regular communication with grantees, including site visits and attendance at grantee events;
- Keep informed of developments in programme area;
- Develop relationships with other donors and stakeholders in the field;
- Represent the organisation externally at national and international conferences.
- Conducting research into particular thematic or funding related issues relevant for the Trust as needed; and
- Such other duties as the Trust may reasonably require.
QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND:
Education:
Master’s degree or equivalent experience in a field related to international human rights.
Experience:
At least five years’ experience inhuman rights, preferably with a focus on women’s rights
Prior experience of working in the NGO, legal or donor sector
Knowledge of working with international and regional human rights mechanisms
Skills:
Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
Excellent research skills
Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation methods
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
Team player with good interpersonal skills
