Senior Memoir Project

DUE: _________________

To conclude your senior year, you will be creating a memoir that details your life experiences up to this point. Your memoir will include an assortment of writing and pictures all about your life! Be detailed and creative as you are reflecting on who you are and who you have become!

Requirements: You must complete ALL of the following tasks to be included in your memoir. You will have ample time in class, so PLEASE USE IT. If you are not using your time wisely, I don’t see why I should use my time to read your memoir. Make sure to pay careful attention to mechanics (spelling, grammar, punctuation).

1. Monday 2-4
Creative Cover: Design a cover that has a creative title, your name, and the date. Use February 27, 2013 as your date.

2. Monday 2-4
This Time in My Life: What is popular right now in your life? How much for a gallon of gas? How much is it for a bottle of pop? What about a movie ticket? What important events are happening in our society? Who do you expect to be our next president? Create a list or collage that shows what is big in 2012. Don’t forget to cite your pictures. à At least fifteen details

3. Tuesday 2-5

Most Memorable Day at School: What day at school really sticks out to you? Why? What happened that day? Tell your story using at least twenty lines of dialogue OR 3/4 page paragraph-style.

4. Wednesday 2-6

A Lesson Learned: All of us have learned powerful lessons about ourselves and about life. What is one lesson you have learned, and how did you learn it? Write a one-page essay in which you tell your story and share what you have learned.

5. Thursday 2-7

Write Nice: Keep your sheet from this activity day to put in your memoir.

Friday 2-8 = Work day

6. Monday 2-11

What’s Your Advice?: Write an advice letter to someone younger than you who could really use some good advice. What would you say? Why would you say it? Make sure to include valuable advice and reasons for that advice (i.e. stories about you). Be specific as you list at least three pieces of valuable advice. àMust be at least ¾ page

7. Tuesday 2-12

Futures: Fantasy & Fact: Keep your sheet from this activity to put in your memoir. **Then, write a detailed paragraph of your own of where you expect to see yourself in ten years. How do you picture your future? What do you expect to happen? What do you hope will happen? What do you know will happen?

8. Wednesday 2-13

Images: Tell a story in pictures. If you could share a day in pictures with your reader, what would you say? Create a collage, timeline, etc. that has at least ten pictures that highlight a particularly exciting or memorable moment/time in your life.

9. Thursday 2-14

I AM...: If you had to describe yourself, what would you say? What metaphors show who you are? Why do those words/phrases fit you? Write at least twenty metaphors/statements describing yourself.

Friday 2-15 = Work day

10. Tuesday 2-19

What I Wanted to Say: Write a poem or several expressive paragraphs that detail “what you wanted to say,” what you would have liked to say or what you wish you would have shared. You need at least five 4-line stanzas or five paragraphs. Consider your parents, friends, teachers, bosses, coaches, Springfield, yourself, etc...

11. Wednesday 2-20

Tribute Letter: Write a letter to an influential person in your life thanking him/her for his/her role. One page, 12 pt. font.

12. Thursday 2-21

Life’s Accomplishments: When you die, what do you think you will have accomplished? What will be said about you? This should be at least six paragraphs in length; model it after an obituary you have seen in the newspaper or my example for you.

13. Friday 2-22

CHOICE: Choose one of the following to complete. Using one of the options listed (or come up with your own), explore and create to develop your own “choice” inclusion: Top10, Springfield, songs, movies, celebrities, “my favorites,” movie quotes, classmates and their quirks, advice list to yourself as a parent, BIG in the news, etc. Have fun with this one!

Monday 2-25 = Work day

14. Tuesday 2-26

**Memoir Review: Using the critique sheet from Mrs. Brown, have at least two people read and critique your memoir. One can be a peer, and one must be an “adult” (parent, teacher, etc.). Don’t leave this until the last minute, and don’t bother a teacher in order to get it done!

Wednesday 2-27

15. MEMOIRS DUE by 3:05

NOTE: You will be graded on completeness, detail, and depth. Do not take this assignment lightly, as it will be a determining grade for this quarter. As already stated, use the time in class wisely; if you do not, the assignments will pile up, you will be overwhelmed, and I do not feel compelled to read what you were supposed to be writing instead of wasting time.

You are nearly done with your senior year;

let this memoir be a testament to yourself, who you are, and who you have become!
