Pittco TMS 114.ALUMINUM DOUBLE GLAZED STOREFRONT ASSEMBLY

2006 - Digicon Information Inc.Page 1

This section addresses Pittco TMS 114 Flush Glaze Storefront System, and includes an aluminum frame assembly and single pane glazed lite, for exterior and interior applications, shop fabricated, factory pre-finished, including field glazing. The system application is intended for singlestory, usually from floor to spandrel beam above or less in height. For multiple story glazing systems, consider utilizing Pittco Sections 08920, 08922, 08924, 08926, 08930, 08932. Glass and glazing is referenced to Section 08800. Sealants are referenced to Section 07900. Door hardware may be specified in this section or specified in Section 08710; edit text accordingly. Operable sash, if any, is usually specified in Aluminum Windows - Section 08520. Where work of this section integrates with another glazing assembly, carefully coordinate both sections to function together. Air barrier and vapor retarder continuity from this system to adjacent construction is critical to successful building air and moisture tightness; specify compatible materials in conjunction with Sections 07260 and 07270. This section includes performance, proprietary, and descriptive type specifications. Edit to avoid conflicting requirements.

1.4SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

Use this article carefully; restrict statements to describe components used to assemble the system. Do not repeat statements made in the Section Includes article.

A.Aluminum entrances and storefront assembly includes tubular aluminum sections with supplementary internal framing, shop fabricated, factory finished, vision glass, related flashings, anchorage and attachment devices.

Fabrication and erection of the glazed frame assembly is usually left to the prerogative of the assembly fabricator. If site conditions, opening tolerances or quality of the work may be an issue or a concern, it may be prudent to require either shop assembly or field erection of the frame assembly. Select one of the following options as appropriate.

B.Frame Assembly: [Site assembled.] [Shop unitized assembly.]

1.5PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Use this article carefully; restrict statements to identify system performance requirements or function criteria only. Delete paragraphs not appropriate to project. Performance specifying permits system manufacturers the latitude to adjust proprietary systems to achieve specified requirements. Rely on this article as the basis for assembly criteria specifying and minimize the material and component statements so not to conflict with performance criteria. The following paragraphs represent a suggested listing of criteria. If more stringent criteria is being considered, refer to AAMA and ASTM test methods and associated documents for guidance.

A.Assembly Design: Design and size components to withstand dead and live loads caused by positive and negative wind pressure acting normal to plane of wall as calculated in accordance with code.

B.Assembly: Accommodate without damage to components or deterioration of seals, movement within system, movement between system and peripheral construction, dynamic loading and release of loads, deflection of structural support framing.

For mullion, corner, and special change of wall plane conditions, limit glazing sealant design movement to 20 percent maximum for elastomeric sealants or 5 percent for acrylic or butyl sealants. Special conditions may require special statements in the paragraph below; edit accordingly.

C.Structural Performance - Deflection: Limit mullion deflection to [flexure limit of glass,] [1/175] [______] of span as measured in accordance with ASTM E330; with full recovery of members.

D.Air Infiltration: Limit air leakage through assembly to [0.06] [____] cfm/sq ft of wall area, measured at a reference differential pressure across assembly of [1.57] [____] psf ([75] [____] Pa) as measured in accordance with ASTM E283.

E.Static Water Leakage: None, when measured in accordance with ASTM E331 with a test pressure difference of [6.24] [____] lb/sq ft ([300] [____] Pa).

F.Dynamic Water Leakage: None, when measured to AAMA 501.2, with a test pressure difference of [6.24] [____] lb/sq ft ([300] [____] Pa).

G.Condensation Resistance Factor (CRF): 34 when measured to AAMA 1503.

H.Insulation U-Factor: 0.82 BTU/hr/sq ft/degrees F when measured to AAMA 1503.

I.Air and Vapor Seal: Maintain continuous air barrier and vapor seal throughout assembly, primarily in line with pane of glass

J.Expansion / Contraction: Provide for expansion and contraction within door and frame assembly components caused by ambient cycling temperature range of [170] [______] degrees F ([95] [______] degrees C over a twelve (12) hour period based on a metal installation temperature of 85 degrees F ([29] degrees C) without causing detrimental effect to assembly components and anchorage.

K.System Internal Drainage: Drain water entering joints, condensation occurring in glazing channels, or migrating moisture occurring within system, to the exterior by a weep drainage network.
