And So This Is Christmas!

Every year I hear people ask “where is the peace on Earth”? They want to know why there is so much evil if God is loving and good. But I want to ask them, “Why is there any good?”

Let’s face it, mankind is capable of extreme violence and brutality. History, as well as contemporary news, reveals how evil men’s hearts are. Humanity is inhumane more often than it is humane.

Consider if you will terrorism, violent crime, white collar crime, defrauding of the elderly, the atrocities against children, the injustices of our justice system, and on and on and on I can go. This, not to mention the Nazi’s, crusades, abortion, Rwanda, Bosnia-Herzegovina and other ongoing holocausts all over the world.

When we think of the propensity for man to victimize other men, the real question isn’t why is there evil in the world, but why is there good? What causes this heart of evil to be kind and good? Human history tells us that mankind isn’t brimming with compassion for his fellow man. Consider all the years from creation on and the abuses, persecutions and victimizing of humanity by humanity. The strong abusing the weak. The powerful persecuting the powerless. The greedy victimizing the naïve.

It reached its zenith in Jerusalem 2000 years ago. There they persecuted, abused and victimized the most perfect sinless man ever! For no reason, except their ignorance and ego, they committed their heinous sin. He who did only good was murdered by the powers that had been.

Today the world is different. Men and governments are expected to be just, compassionate and nonviolent. Over time, since the resurrection, Gods influence has expanded. Without violating the will of any man, God worked out a plan that allowed Him to put His Spirit in a human and bring about a change in them. Although man is still imperfect, there have been great improvements where ever Jesus is allowed.

Hospitals, schools, libraries and even jurisprudence are the results of His influence. The question isn’t why is there evil, but why is there so much good. I know that there is a lot of room for improvement, but I see great improvement in mankind since Jesus came and now lives in the hearts of people.

Now consider this, this world would still be ruled by despots, barbarians and absolute rulers with absolute rule; doing what they please as they please as they did for millennia had it not been for the coming of Jesus. So you see, I hope you see how important and relevant the birth of Jesus and His being the Christ is. All the GOODNESS we have in our world is because of God and it has spread because of the first Christmas. Now there’s cause to be merry!

So Merry Christmas, spread the good cheer and goodness that He has given us all.
