Family and Friends who recently passed

Dear Church Family,

I pray that the Lord has used His Word over the past month to shape your attitude to mirror that of our Savior Jesus Christ. As He gave up all for our redemption from the chains of sin, He calls us to a life of surrender to His plan. He desires us to be engaged in our daily walk with Him so we are properly positioned for His use to spread the Good News of God’s Kingdom.

This month marks the 10th anniversary of a day that I will never forget—September 11, 2001. I remember exactly what I was doing that morning. I was meeting with a couple in the midst of marital discord, that was an destructive moment of crisis for their marriage, and 10 minutes after we completed our pastoral sessionthe husband rushed back into the church with the devastating news of the terrorist attack. I have his terrorized face etched into my mind and can still experience the feelings I had that day to learn of an attack on American soil and the helplessness that characterized this man life and now our nation. The crisis that he had experienced in his personal life moments before paled in the shadow of this national crisis. That moment began a few days of what seemed like the world coming to a standstill. Travel was cancelled and everyone felt numb in shock as live footage streamed through the media to us.

In that moment, our nation had experienced a national crisis that caused several to assess their lives and consider where their true source of safety was. As great and well-trained as our military branches were, and still are today, we realized that the safety provided by the might of man is limited. I was reminded of the truth that God is our only true source of safety and He welcomes us to take refuge in Him. Refuge from those crises that arise in our personal lives, community, nation and even the world, but also we are invited to come to Him for refuge in the more weighty matter of where we will spend our eternity.

The Psalmist writes,“Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul. Rescue me from my enemies, O LORD, for I hide myself in You. Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground” (Psalms 143:8-10NIV). I pray you take these verses to heart during the month. I pray that this truth will provide you comfort in the moments of crises that will come in the course of life. I pray you have the assurance of God’s love for all eternity through a personal relationship with Jesus.

I look forward to our times of worship, prayer, Bible study, fellowship and service before the Lord together. If you have not stepped into faith in the Lord Jesus, I encourage you to give me a call and allow me the opportunity to talk with you about God’s invitation to you. Also, I encourage you to be consistent in your engagement in the fellowship of our church family and be active in inviting others to join us. You are in my prayers and I love you.

Seeking God with you,

Pastor Don

Prayer3 – Seeking God’s Presence, Plan, Power

2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

I often read the “In Touch” magazine for the inspirational stories and the devotionals. It is free and available at

Last year I was looking for specific direction in my life from the Lord. I had been praying for quite some time and I still didn’t get the answer I was searching for. It was late summer and I was reading the September issue of In Touch. The devotional for that day gave me the answer I was looking for. The Following is that devotional:

Gods Clear Instructions

Read Joshua 6:1-5

Joshua needed guidance as he faced one of the most crucial moments of his life. Because the Lord had promised him success in conquering Jericho, he knew the outcome of the battle, but as the day of combat approached, he needed a specific strategy for victory. What he heard the Lord say must have made his jaw drop.

Can you imagine the soldiers’ thoughts as they carried out this bizarre battle strategy? In confusing times like this, it’s good to remember the three requirements for benefiting from God’s instructions. We need:

-Faith to believe the Lord

-Courage to obey Him

-Patients to wait for His timing.

When God gives us clear instruction through His word of His Sprit within us, our response shows how much we trust Him. If we truly believe Him and His promises, precise and complete obedience will follow. His victory in any area of struggle is available only to those who act upon His directions.

Submitting to the Lord’s timing is also an essential part of obedience. What would have happened if the army decided to bypass God’s plans for the first six days and skip straight to the seventh day’s march around Jericho? They would have missed the victory.

How often do we beg the Lord for guidance, yet hesitate to obey when he finally gives it? Living by faith can seem like a huge risk when His instructions make no sense or require a lengthy wait. But knowing His eternal perspective and unlimited power can strengthen our resolve to obey.

Dear friends,

There are more than 27,000 high schools and junior highs in the US with over 16 million students. They are lead by almost 1.5 million teachers.

There are more than 4,500 colleges and universities in the US with over 20 million students and more than 1.7 million faculty.

All over the country, students and faculty are back at school, once again seeking wisdom and knowledge and purpose. And our staff and students and volunteers are there, ready to be used by God.

Please pray with us for the students and faculty of the world. Pray that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:2-3 ESV).

Tomorrow morning, Amy and I fly to San Antonio for a week with our US Operations Directors. These are the men and women who serve behind the scenes to support and resource our thousands of campus field staff and volunteers. Please pray that we'll lead them well and that our meetings this week will be encouraging and effective. Pray also for safe travel and for protection for our families as we're gone.

Thank you for your prayers and support. Having you stand with us strengthens and encourages us. It is an honor to serve Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, together.

Until His name is known by all,

David W. Lootens
