Henry County Straw Loading Contest

OBJECT:Contestants load bales of straw on a standard ½ or ¾ ton pickup; drive through a designated

Obstacle course and restack the straw on the same location and style as the original pile.

The shortest net time is the winner.

REQUIREMENT:All team members must have parent signed “FAIR RELEASE OF LIABILITY” (if 18 years

old signed by you). Forms available at the OSU Extension-Henry County Office prior

to the start of the Henry County Fair OR the Junior Fair Board Office during fair.

RULES:

1.TEAMS~

A team consists of 3 members who are Junior Fair exhibitors. Teams can be comprised of members

from 4-H clubs, FFA Chapters, Farm Bureau Youth, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

Teams may be formed as follows: All Girls Division All Boys DivisionCombined Division

Team members must be 14 years of age and older.

Each team must have one member who is a LICENSED DRIVER and possess an INSURED TRUCK.

2.ENTRIES~

Entries will be taken from July 1st through Opening Day (Thursday) of the current year of fair- 4:30pm.

Registration forms may be found on the OSU Extension Henry County website (henry.osu.edu),

picked-up at the OSU Extension Henry County office or at the Junior Fair Board Office on the

fairgrounds afteropening day of the fair.

3.Pickup truck may NOT have side bars, roll bars or other devices. The tailgate may be loaded on.

4.All members must ride in the cab throughout the course with doors closed and bodies inside.

5. TIME SPECIFICS

Maximum time allowed to complete is 10 minutes.

Time starts with the truck parked at the stack, engine off, doors closed and team sitting on the tailgate.

At the “GO” signal, team members load the bales.

Bales broken while loading will be replaced by the judges.

Team members must all be in the truck, doors closed before the truck moves.

Drive the course following all directions provided the day of the contest.

Back up to the starting point; unload bales, stacking the pile the same as originally stacked.

(5 wide, 2 deep, 4 high)

Team members must all be sitting on the tailgate to end time.

6. PENALTIES

Each broken bale= 15 second penalty (includes pulling twine part way off)

Missing or knocking over a course marker (barrel, cone, bale)= 15 second penalty

Bales falling off the truck must be reloaded except if broken. All team members in the truck with

doors closed before moving. Truck need not be shut off. Broken bales are to be removed by the team

after they are done.

Penalties can be assessed in 15 second increments for improper stacking at the judge’s discretion.

Moving before everyone is in and doors are closed= 15 second penalty.

Hanging out the window while driving, or dangerous driving, can result in 15 second penalty at

judge’s discretion.

7.The next team in line will be allowed to watch the restack for bad bales to be replaced at request

to and approval of the judge.

Part A- Waver & Release From Liability

In consideration of being permitted to enter for any purpose any RESTRICTED AREA (herein defined as the areas to which admission by general public spectators is prohibited), or being permitted to compete, officiate, observe, work for, or for any purpose participate in any way in the event, EACH OF THE UNDERSIGNED, for himself, his personal representatives heirs, next of kin, acknowledges, agrees and represents that he has, or will immediately upon entering any of such restricted areas, and will continuously thereafter, inspect such restricted area or areas and all portions thereof which he enters and with which he comes in contact, and hoes further warrant that his entry upon such restricted are or areas and his participation, if any, in the event constitutes an acknowledgement that he has inspected such restricted are and that he find san accepts the same as being safe and reasonably suited for the purposes of his use, and he further agrees and warrant that if, at any time, he is in or about restricted areas and he feels anything to be unsafe, he will immediately advise the officials of such and will leave the restricted area(s).

HERBEY RELEASES, WAIVES, DISCHARGES AND COVENANTS NOT TO BRING SUIT AGAINST the HENRY COUNTY AG SOCIETY, the promoters, other participants, operators, officials, and persons in a restricted area, sponsors, advertiser, owners and lessees of premises used to conduct the event and each of them, their officers and employees, all for the purposes herein referred to as “releases”, from all liability to the undersigned , his personal representatives, assigns, heirs and next of kin for any and all damage, and any claim or demands thereof on account of injury to the person or property or resulting in death of the undersigned, whether caused by the negligence of the releases or otherwise while the undersigned is in or upon the restricted area, and/or, competing, officiating in, observing or working for or for any purpose participating in the event:

HERBY AGREES TO INDEMNIFY AND SAVE AND HOLD HARMLESS the releasees and each of them from any loss, liability, damage, or cost they may incur due to the presence of the undersigned in or upon the restricted are or in any way competing, officiating, observing, or working for, or for any purpose participating in the event and whether caused by the negligence of the releases or otherwise.

3. HEREBY ASSUMES FULL RESPONSILBIIY FOR AND RISK OF BOIDLY INJURY< DEATH OR PROPERTY DAMAGE due to the negligence of releases or otherwise while in or upon the restricted are and/or while competing, officiating, observing, or working for or for any purpose participating in the event.

4. EACH OF THE UNDERSIGNED expressly acknowledges and agrees that the activities at the event and in the restricted areas are dangerous and involve the risk of serious injury and/ordeath and/or property damage. EACH OF THE UNDERSIGNED further expressly agrees that the foregoing release, waiver and indemnity agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by the law of the Province or State in which the event is conducted and that if any position thereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect.

THE UNDERSIGNED HAS READ AND VOLUNTARILY SIGNS THE RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT, and further agrees that no oral representations, statement or inducement apart from the foregoing written agreement have been made.

This waiver, release and indemnification agreement specifically embraces each and every event sanctioned, authorized or promoted by said releases during the entire season and applies to each and every event, or activity hereinabove mentioned, and has the same effect as If executed after each and every activity or event in which the undersigned participates so that the parties herein intended to be released and indemnified shall be fully and effectively released and indemnified as to each and every even hereinabove described.
