Tides are regular changes in the elevation of the ocean’s surface. Many factors influence the tides like shape of coastline, configuration of oceans basins, and water depth, but the greatest influence is gravity. Both the moon and the sun affect the tides, but because of the moon is a lot closer its gravitational influence is greater.
