Congratulations Graduating Seniors
Daniel McCarley
Many of you know that I was full of adventure from the time that I was a little boy. One time my Dad got pulled over for speeding, so the police officer asked him for his license and registration. I was in the back seat gleaming with excitement because I was so close to a real police officer. So I said very enthusiastically to the policeman, “what’s your name?” He didn’t answer me, so I thought he didn’t hear me. This time I said it a little bit louder, “what’s your name?” Once again the police officer didn’t answer me, and this bothered me because I really wanted to meet him. So I yelled as loud as I could, “I said, “HEY, WHAT’S YOUR NAME?” This time the police officer started to laugh and he bent down and introduced himself to me. My parents were very nervous, because they really couldn’t afford a speeding ticket at that time. Because I had made a new friend in the police officer, he let my Dad off with a warning. I never missed an opportunity to make a friend, whether it had two legs or four. Many of you know that I enjoyed all sports and spent many nights outside camping. If there was one word which could best describe my life growing up, it would be “Adventure.”
Then the day came, a time when I would ride off to a new “adventure,” when I wasn’t at home under the guidance of my parents. Most of my parent’s day-to-day tasks of teaching me had come to an end. Whenever I left the house growing up my dad would say, “Remember whose you are, and how you were raised.” Here are three scriptures that sum up what my loving parents taught me.
- “Teach your children to choose the right path and when they are older, they will remain upon it.” (Proverbs 22:6) My parents did their best to be a good example to me.
- “Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is useless.” (Psalm 127:1) My parents tried to teach me the value of working hard, and to keep my priorities in life focused on God and family.
- “See how very much our heavenly Father loves us, for he allows us to be called his children and we really are!” (1 Jn 3:1) I always felt the assurance of God’s love for my family and me, even during a crisis.
Graduating seniors, I pray that you will continually be comforted knowing that your parents and your church family will be lovingly watching while you continue the journey toward becoming a responsible adult. I also pray that you never lose your sense of “adventure” and eagerness to make new friends. Live for God and do
hard things for Him!
MEMORIAL FUND
The spirit of TURTLE BOYLES will always be with us. His laugh, his smile, and his Christian attitude were an influence to everyone he came into contact with. Turtle was a huge part of Logan County Christian Camp and he is truly missed. The Elders established a memorial fund in Turtle’s name for the benefit of youth who want to attend camp, but cannot afford to pay. Last year we had $1530 given to the Memorial fund in Turtle’s name. That money paid for 18 campers to go to camp that couldn’t afford to go. We anticipate that many campers needing help financially again this year. Any donation to Turtle’s memorial fund is greatly appreciated, whether it be $5, $20, $100…… and will go directly to pay for youth to attend our church camp. If you have any questions, please contact an Elder, the church office, or Daniel McCarley.
