All students who wish to register for an Advanced Placement (AP) Course for the 2015-2016 school year must complete this form in its entirety. This forms serves as a registration contract indicating the student’s understanding of the following:

  • AP courses are advanced college level courses requiring a minimum of 2 hours of study an evening in order to remain properly prepared for class.
  • All assignments must be turned in on time in each AP course, therefor it is the responsibility of the students to stay on track with the rigorous workload.
  • Students must have successfully passed prior course(s) in the content strand with 3.0 (B) or better. Scores in previous content courses must be placed on this form in the spaces indicated along with required teacher signature(s).
  • All students must complete AP Bootcamp and/or a Summer packet as indicated by the instructor in order to remain in the approved AP course. Failure to follow instructor’s directions will result in removal of student from the AP course.
  • All students in grades 11 and 12 must have passed all of the HSA exams in order tobe accepted into an AP course. 9th and 10th graders must have passed any HSA exam connected to previous courses taken.
  • Students enrolled in AP courses are expected to perform at an exceptional level. Not only should quarterly grades remain at a level of C or better, but all students must take the end of year AP exam in May and score a 3 or better.
  • Students are expected to participate in tutoring and/or study halls to maintain skill levels. Any student who falls below a “C” average must attend tutoring sessions.
  • Any AP course with an enrollment less than 20 will be canceled. Students accepted into that course will be offered an alternative course on an AP level.
  • Students who wish to withdraw from an AP course must meet the following:
  • Withdrawal must happen within the first 20 days of school, otherwise no withdrawals will be approved
  • The process for withdrawal must begin with a withdrawal request made to providing a reason for withdrawal. Withdrawal will only be granted upon approval from the course instructor, the AP coordinator, the parent, and the principal or principal’s designee.
  • The maximum number of AP courses students may take at Charles Herbert Flowers HS are as follows:
  • Freshman – 1 course
  • Sophomores – 1 course
  • Juniors – 2 courses
  • Seniors – 3 courses

Note: Students who would like to take beyond the maximum number of AP courses per grade level must gain special permission from Mrs. Bego and Mr. Brown. This process will begin by making a request to asking for a review of past academic performance. Decisions will be based upon performance, teacher recommendation and grades.
