Windsor Locks Public Works
Infrastructure:
Highway Division –
The Town of Windsor Locks was again a recipient of another DECD Grant which was utilized to improve the infrastructure on both Olive and Pleasant Streets. The sanitary sewers and laterals were replaced as well as the sidewalks, curbing, some of the older drainage system and the roadbeds were reclaimed, graded and paved. South Center Street is undergoing quite a transformation. The sanitary sewer system has been replaced from Elm Street down to Oak Ridge Drive. The road surface has been reclaimed, graded and repaved with a binder course for the winter season. The sidewalks and curbing will be replaced in the spring of 2012. Once these two phases are complete the final course of pavement will be applied. We are anticipating that this project will be completed by mid summer of 2012.
Sidewalks have been replaced on South Elm Street fro Elm Street to Harrison Street as part of the Town’s Capital Improvement Projects. The sidewalks on Main Street between Chestnut Street and Church Street as well a those on Elm Street between Main Street and Center Street are slated for replacement if we are successful in obtaining another STEAP grant next year.
The parking lot located to the rear of the CVS building on Main Street was reclaimed and repaved this summer. Additional drainage was also installed to help with the longevity of the new pavement. This lot serves as additional parking for the guests of the SeniorCenter on Oak Street.
Parks and Grounds Division –
The bathrooms at PesciPark have been recently completed and are now more easily accessible for those attending games being held at PesciPark I & II. The parking lot has been repaved and lined this year as well. The installation of the concrete fence poles and chain has been completed this summer along with the newly paved parking area located by Southwest Avenue. We’d like to thank Russo Lawn & Landscaping for their efforts on the newly installed island garden which is located at the entrance to SouthwestVeteransPark.
Facility Maintenance –
The Town Hall renovation project is continuing to move forward. The west wing is scheduled for a complete makeover once the crews are available to get back in there and continue working. Part of the project is the installation of new ceilings with the A/C vents placed in the suspended ceilings along with the new energy efficient lighting. Then the new walls are erected with new data lines, electrical services and finally the carpeting. Once this section is complete the Park & Recreation Department along with the Building, Planning & Zoning offices will reside in the same wing as Social Services.
The Director of Public Works would again like to express his deepest gratitude to all of the Public Works employees, including the Water Pollution Control and Facility Maintenance employees for their efforts and hard work this past year. I would also like to thank the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance for their continued support in helping to make Windsor Locks a better community.
