Dear Parents/Carers
Re: SWIMMING 2017/2018 (15.09.17 – 13.07.18 inc.)
Swimming this year will be available to every child in Years 3, 4 and 5 as follows:-
Class BEECH sessions – September 15th – November 24th inc.
Class ASH sessions – January 12th – March 23rd inc.
Class ASPEN sessions – April 27th– July 6thinc.
It is expected that all children will participate as they will benefit from the health, fitness and safety aspects as well as the social interaction. The aim of the course is that your child should hopefully achieve the following skills by the time they leave school:-
a)swim unaided, competently and safely, for at least
25 metres;
b)develop confidence in the water and be able to rest, float
and adopt support positions;
c)use a variety of means of propulsion with either arms or
legs or both and be able to develop effective and efficient
swimming strokes on the front and back;
d)know the principles and skills of water safety and survival.
Swimming tuition is run by a company called Everyone Active, at the Wickford Pool, who employs fully insured and qualified instructors. This activity consistently runs at a loss and is not funded by the government; any shortfall has to be paid for out of our school fund which subsequently reduces availability of funds for other school activities. However, as we believe that this is such an invaluable skill for your child to achieve, the school’s governors are prepared to subsidise the costs for 10 weeks for each year group,but to reflect rising costs, we are requesting a minimum donation from you of £20.00 per child (please pay on-line). The school will fund tuition and subsidise transport costs (the coach charges are currently £1950.00) for 30 weeks swimming for 92 children this year. This is still very good value and equates to £2.00 per week so your donation, therefore, would be very much appreciated. Please do not send your donation now as separate letters will be sent to each year group prior to the start date of their sessions.
Thank you for your support.
Yours sincerely
